AI music platform Suno, which is reported to be raising funds<\/a> at a $2 billion valuation, is launching a new version of its music-making tool for users of its free service.<\/p>\n The move comes just weeks after Suno rolled out a new version for its paying subscribers and an AI-powered digital audio workstation (DAW).<\/p>\n Dubbed v4.5 All<\/strong>, the new free tool replaces the v3.5 tool that free users have had access to until now. The company claims that v4.5 All<\/strong> \u201cis a transformative leap\u201d from the last free model.<\/p>\n MBW<\/em> understands that the new version is designed to be faster than v3.5 and offers improved sound fidelity, smoother generation, and better performance across musical styles and vocals.<\/p>\n v4.5 All is built on the 4.5+ premium version that Suno released in July<\/a>, and which at that time was Suno\u2019s most advanced music-generating tool.<\/p>\n Among its innovations is an \u2018Add Vocals\u2019 tool that allows users to layer vocals on top of instrumental tracks, and an \u2018Add Instrumental<\/a>s\u2019 tool that enables users to add AI-generated backing tracks to vocals. It also includes a tool called \u2018Inspire\u2019 that creates songs based on user-curated playlists.<\/p>\n However, v4.5+ is no longer Suno\u2019s most recent tool for paying users, as the company last month released v5<\/strong><\/a>, which it describes as its \u201cmost advanced music model yet,\u201d claiming that it \u201ccomposes like a musician, adapts like a collaborator, and creates like never before.\u201d<\/p>\n Also last month, Suno released Suno Studio<\/strong><\/a>, which combines Suno\u2019s generative AI tools with the multi-track editing functionality of a digital audio workstation (DAW), allowing users to create instrumental stems, arrange compositions, and export audio files.<\/p>\n Suno\u2019s rapid sequence of updates and new products highlights the growing competition among AI music-making platforms. Not only is the company competing with platforms like Udio, Boomy, and Beatoven, it could soon face its most serious competitor yet in the form of OpenAI<\/strong>, maker of ChatGPT<\/strong> and Sora<\/strong>, which is reportedly building an AI music platform of its own<\/a>.<\/p>\n Suno, along with rival Udio<\/strong>, is facing a major copyright infringement lawsuit brought by labels owned by Sony Music<\/a><\/strong>, Universal Music Group<\/a><\/strong>, and Warner Music Group<\/a><\/strong>. The labels allege that Suno used massive amounts of tracks without permission or payment to train its AI models.<\/p>\n Notably, Suno and Udio have largely admitted<\/a> to using copyrighted music to train their AI, but the companies argue in their copyright infringement trials that this should be considered \u201cfair use\u201d under US copyright law.
