Four years after leaving the \u201cNCIS\u201d franchise, Mark Harmon is reprising his role as Leroy Jethro Gibbs on an upcoming episode of \u201cNCIS: Origins.\u201d<\/p>\n
Harmon provides narration for \u201cNCIS: Origins,\u201d which is a prequel to \u201cNCIS\u201d set in the early 1990s. Austin Stowell stars as a younger version of Harmon\u2019s character, Gibbs. <\/p>\n
Harmon will return in the flesh for a special crossover event on Tuesday, Nov. 11. For one night only, \u201cNCIS\u201d and \u201cNCIS: Origins\u201d are swapping time slots; the spinoff will air first at 8 p.m. ET, followed by the original series.<\/p>\n
Per the synopsis, the Nov. 11 episode follows young Gibbs and his team as they \u201cinvestigate the small-town death of a naval officer in the \u201990s on \u2018NCIS: Origins,\u2019 a case that\u2019s unexpectedly re-opened in the present day on \u2018NCIS.\u2019\u201d<\/p>\n
Co-showrunners David J. North and Gina Lucita Montreal said in a statement: \u201cFour years ago, Gibbs disappeared to Alaska to live a life of solitude. We know how much fans have missed seeing Mark and have wondered what Gibbs is up to today. Well, on Nov. 11, we\u2019re so excited to announce that Mark Harmon will return as Leroy Jethro Gibbs in the \u2018Origins\u2019 hour of the NCIS crossover event. We don\u2019t want to give too much away, but let\u2019s just say Gibbs is no longer alone.\u201d<\/p>\n
Harmon said of the episode: \u201cI\u2019m very proud of the storytelling that David and Gina are doing on \u2018Origins.\u2019 They continue to push boundaries and dive deeper into the characters\u2019 backstories. They came to me with an idea for Gibbs that I liked, and it seemed like a good time to check in with him. I hope fans enjoy it.\u201d<\/p>\n
