Japan\u2019s anime industry reached an all-time high in 2024, climbing to JPY3.84 trillion ($25.25 billion) in total market value, according to data presented by the Association of Japanese Animations (Aja<\/a>) at Tiffcom, the market arm of the Tokyo International Film Festival.<\/p>\n

The session, which also featured presentations by \u201cGodzilla<\/a>\u201d studio Toho Global on its international strategy, the \u201cGundam<\/a>\u201d franchise, and Annecy-winning feature \u201cChaO<\/a>\u201d \u2014 which is also screening at the Tokyo festival \u2014 underscored how anime continues to drive Japan<\/a>\u2019s expanding global content economy.<\/p>\n

Overseas revenues surged 26% year-on-year to JPY2.17 trillion ($14.27 billion), while local earnings rose 2.8% to JPY1.67 trillion ($10.98 billion). This marks the second-highest annual growth rate on record after 2019\u2019s 15.3% increase.<\/p>\n
