Tom Parker Bowles joked there would be a “revolution” if he were to be named prince<\/a>.<\/p>\n Queen Camilla’s<\/a> son expressed his belief that it would have been an “appalling” decision if he had received a title when his stepfather, King Charles,<\/a> ascended the throne in 2023, stating it would have set back the monarchy by decades.<\/p>\n In a light-hearted conversation with the Good Food Podcast, Tom quipped that he has retained his “original name,” adding, “I tell you, that would be the quickest way to revolution.<\/p>\n “I think we’re a fairly balanced and sober and sensible country on the whole. But if I suddenly became a prince, I think that Buckingham Palace gates would be stormed. It would be appalling. I think that would put back the long and glorious cause of the monarchy in Britain by many years.”<\/p>\n The 50-year-old food writer, who is the eldest child of Queen Camilla and her ex-husband Andrew Parker Bowles, lauded the King as a “fountain of knowledge” and a “hero of British farmers.”<\/p>\n<\/div>\n “He has forgotten more than I will ever know,” he added.<\/p>\n Tom also shared the “incredible” experience of getting to hold the Crown Jewels when Charles and Camilla were preparing for the coronation ceremony.<\/p>\n He said, “They had some of the Crown Jewels, because the King and my mother had to practise carrying [them] … and it was just, I think it was the sceptre, or the diadem, I can’t remember.<\/p>\n “Anyway, just to hold it briefly was \u2013 you’re holding history, you’re holding 800 or 900 years of history, it’s incredible.”<\/p>\n<\/div>\n Restaurant critic Tom Parker Bowles and his sister Laura Lopes were raised in a “very traditional” manner in Wiltshire, with Tom lauding their mother Camilla as an excellent “natural” cook.<\/p>\n He shared, “I had a very traditional \u2013 albeit very happy and privileged \u2013 upbringing. It was a classic, comfortable English upbringing.”<\/p>\n When asked about his mother’s cooking, he added, “She’s a great cook, a natural cook, and there weren’t many spices… it was very, very traditional. I grew up in Wiltshire in the ’70s and early ’80s.
