\n It feels like the Billboard charts could use a good rap beef right about now.\n <\/p>\n
\n That\u2019s because, according to the publication, for the first time since 1990, there is no hip hop in the Top 40 of the Billboard 100 chart.\n <\/p>\n
\n \u201cWith Kendrick Lamar and SZA\u2019s 13-week Billboard Hot 100 No. 1 \u2018Luther\u2019 falling off the Hot 100 dated Oct. 25, 2025, there were officially no rap songs in the chart\u2019s top 40 last week,\u201d Billboard reported.<\/a>\n <\/p>\n \n The last time that happened was the week of February 2, 1990, \u201cwhen the top-ranking rap song was Biz Markie\u2019s eventual top 10 hit \u2018Just a Friend,\u2019 which had just climbed to No. 41 on the chart.\u201d\n <\/p>\n \n The following week, that song shot to the number 29 slot, \u201cstarting a Hot 100 streak of rap songs in the top 40 that would last for the next 35 years, eight months and three weeks.\u201d\n <\/p>\n \n There are, however, rap songs currently down lower on the Hot 100 list.\n <\/p>\n \n YoungBoy Never Broke Again\u2019s \u201cShot Callin,\u201d came in at number 44 followed by Cardi B\u2019s \u201cSafe\u201d (featuring Kehlani) and BigXthaPlug\u2019s \u201cHell at Night\u201d (featuring Ella Langley) at 48 and 49, respectively.\n <\/p>\n \n So is hip hop declining or nah?\n <\/p>\n \n Billboard reports that \u201cthe lack of rap songs in the Hot 100\u2019s top 40 is the latest sign of a recent dip in rap\u2019s commercial dominance,\u201d while also pointing out that they made a rule change that contributed to the recent Lamar and SZA collab dropping out of the top.\n <\/p>\n \n \u201cFor the chart dated Oct. 25, descending songs were deemed recurrent and removed from the chart if they had exceeded certain durations on the chart while also falling below certain updated chart thresholds \u2014 for instance, if they had fallen below No. 25 after spending over 26 weeks on the chart,\u201d the publication explained. \u201cThat particular change resulted in the departure of \u2018Luther,\u2019 which had fallen to No. 38 on the previous week\u2019s Hot 100 in its 46th week on the listing.\u201d\n <\/p>\n \n Lamar\u2019s latest album, 2024\u2019s \u201cGNX,\u201d was bolstered by his now legendary beef<\/a> with fellow rapper and former collaborator, Drake.\n <\/p>\n \n The hip-hop superstar won five Grammys<\/a> in February, two of them in major categories for his hit \u201cNot Like Us,\u201d a diss track of Drake.\n <\/p>\n \n Drake filed suit against his own record label, <\/a>UMG Recordings, Inc.
