The Law & Order: SVU<\/em><\/a> squad will be whole again (hopefully) soon. We have an update on Fin\u2019s (Ice-T<\/a>) return as the sergeant continues to recover from his Season 27 premiere attack<\/a>.<\/p>\n \u201cWe all miss Fin,\u201d Aim\u00e9 Donna Kelly<\/a> tells TV Insider. \u201cHe\u2019s\u00a0another one that took a minute to get used to Curry and then took me under his wing and showed me the ropes. I\u2019ll never forget that episode where we walk into the apartment and it\u2019s like this body that\u2019s in a garbage bag and tied up and chopped in pieces. And that\u2019s the first time Curry experiences that and Fin in the way Fin is is like, \u2018You good? You need to get yourself together. Alright, let\u2019s go.\u2019 Not with kitten gloves, but very much like, \u2018I got you. But toughen up at the same time.’\u201d<\/p>\n She continues, \u201cWe miss Fin\u2019s energy, but we definitely will have Fin back.\u201d<\/p>\n Kelly then points out that Fin\u2019s storyline this season \u2014 which did include him thinking about retirement in the premiere \u2014 offers a look at the realities of the job.<\/p>\n \u201cIt\u2019s another one of those things of just navigating life and bringing real life into the squad room, which is just a testament to the writing. It\u2019s so good,\u201d she says. \u201cI think we crave that. We want to know more about these people and how hard being an actual SVU detective is. It takes a toll on the mind and on the body. And I think Fin is the character where we\u2019re seeing the physical toll that it takes to be an SVU detective, which I think is just written so beautifully.\u201d<\/p>\n It\u2019s especially interesting for someone like Curry, who is a recent addition to SVU, to see the paths that you can follow in this unit and the toll it can take on those who stay with it for years. Its captain, Benson (Mariska Hargitay<\/a>), clearly has a home and is right where she belongs. Meanwhile, Fin is considering retirement. Kelly agrees<\/a>.<\/p>\n \u201cI think that weighs on her and the decisions that she makes,\u201d she adds. \u201cShe decided, \u2018I want this. I want this role. I want this job. I want to be here because this is where I see real change happening in the small communities.\u2019 It\u2019s just so important, and it\u2019s really beautiful.\u201d<\/p>\n It\u2019s especially worth nothing that Curry is also a captain and doesn\u2019t need to have taken a position where she\u2019d be reporting to someone of the same rank like she is.<\/p>\n \u201cI think that\u2019s the part that hasn\u2019t been said, but it\u2019s clear. It\u2019s like, \u2018I\u2019m a captain. I don\u2019t have to be here. I choose<\/em> to be here. I want to be here. I want to learn from Benson. I want to learn from Fin. I want to understand how to effect change in this way,’\u201d Kelly says. \u201cIt\u2019s why she chooses to stay with SVU. It\u2019s not something she has to do.
