Billie Eilish<\/strong><\/a> is putting her money where her mouth is.<\/p>\n

The \u201cBirds of a Feather\u201d singer, 23, urged billionaires to donate their riches to people in need while speaking at a Wall Street Journal<\/em> event, where she pledged to give nearly $12 million of her own earnings to charity.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe\u2019re in a time right now where the world is really, really bad and really dark, and people need empathy and help more than, kind of, ever, especially in our country,\u201d she said on stage during WSJ. Magazine<\/em>\u2018s 2025 Innovator Awards at the Museum of Modern Art in New York City on Wednesday, October 29. \u201cI\u2019d say if you have money, it would be great to use it for good things, and maybe give it to some people that need it.\u201d<\/p>\n

Eilish went on to make a bold plea to some of the top earners in the room, including Facebook cofounder Mark Zuckerberg<\/strong><\/a>, who is the fifth richest person in the world with a net worth of $230 billion, according to Forbes<\/em><\/a>.<\/p>\n

\n\t\t\tThough many celebrities are very, very rich, only a handful have actually achieved billionaire status. The 10-figure club is mostly populated by entrepreneurs and business magnates \u2014 people including Elon Musk, Bill Gates and Jeff Bezos. Celebrities who breathe that rarefied air have usually diversified their portfolios to include all kinds of partnerships, investments and [\u2026]\t\t<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

\u201cLove you all, but there\u2019s a few people in here that have a lot more money than me,\u201d she said. \u201cIf you\u2019re a billionaire, why<\/em> are you a billionaire? No hate, but yeah. Give your money away, shorties!\u201d<\/p>\n

Many people in the audience clapped in response to Eilish\u2019s comments, but an eyewitness told People<\/em><\/a> that Zuckerberg, 41, did not.<\/p>\n

Eilish was on hand to accept the Music Innovator Award, while Zuckerberg was there to support his wife, pediatrician Priscilla Chan<\/strong>, who received the Philanthropy in Science Innovator Award.<\/p>\n

Other honorees in attendance included Hailey Bieber<\/strong>, who notably sold her Rhode skincare brand<\/a> to e.l.f. Beauty for $1 billion in May, as well as Ben Stiller<\/strong>, Spike Lee<\/strong> and George Lucas<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

Prior to Eilish\u2019s speech, Stephen Colbert<\/strong> announced to the crowd that the nine-time Grammy and two-time Oscar winner would be donating $11.5 million in proceeds from her ongoing Hit Me Hard and Soft Tour<\/em> to \u201csupport organizations, projects and voices dedicated to food equity, climate justice, reducing carbon pollution and combating the climate crisis.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cThat\u2019s wonderful,\u201d Colbert said. \u201cBillie, on behalf of humans everywhere, thank you.\u201d<\/p>\n
