King Charles III<\/strong><\/a> has officially started the \u201cformal\u201d process to remove the \u201cstyle, titles and honors\u201d of Prince Andrew<\/strong><\/a> as the fallout from his brother\u2019s ongoing sexual assault scandal continues.<\/p>\n

\u201cPrince Andrew will now be known as Andrew Mountbatten Windsor. His lease on Royal Lodge has, to date, provided him with legal protection to continue in residence,\u201d reads a Buckingham Palace statement shared with Us Weekly<\/em> on Thursday, October 30. \u201cFormal notice has now been served to surrender the lease and he will move to alternative private accommodation. These censures are deemed necessary, notwithstanding the fact that he continues to deny the allegations against him.\u201d<\/p>\n

The statement added, \u201cTheir Majesties wish to make clear that their thoughts and utmost sympathies have been, and will remain with, the victims and survivors of any and all forms of abuse.\u201d<\/p>\n

Andrew has continued to deny all allegations that tied him<\/a> to Jeffrey Epstein<\/strong>, which first came to light in 2019 when the late Virginia Giuffre<\/strong> alleged that she had sexual relations with the former Duke of York in 2001 when she was underage.<\/p>\n

\n\t\t\tThe drama within the royal family continues as Prince Andrew\u2019s scandal keeps making headlines. British journalist Emily Maitlis \u2014 who famously interviewed Andrew for his 2019 sit-down on BBC\u2019s Newsnight \u2014 discussed the fallout during the Monday, October 27, episode of \u201cThe News Agents\u201d podcast. Maitlis claimed that the U.K. media was informed last week [\u2026]\t\t<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

Giuffre sued Andrew for sexual abuse in 2021, and they settled outside of court the following year. Giuffre died by suicide at age 41 this past April. Her memoir, Nobody\u2019s Girl<\/em><\/a>, was released posthumously earlier this month. Within the book, Giuffre shared more details about the allegations against Andrew and Epstein.<\/p>\n

Days before the memoir was released, Andrew announced that he would be giving up his royal titles<\/a>.<\/p>\n

\u201cIn discussion with The King, and my immediate and wider family, we have concluded the continued accusations about me distract from the work of His Majesty and the Royal Family,\u201d read the October 17 statement obtained by Us<\/em>. \u201cI have decided, as I always have, to put my duty to my family and country first. I stand by my decision five years ago to stand back from public life.\u201d<\/p>\n

The statement continued, \u201cWith His Majesty\u2019s agreement, we feel I must now go a step further. I will therefore no longer use my title or the honors which have been conferred upon me. As I have said previously, I vigorously deny the accusations against me.\u201d<\/p>\n

Questions have continued to rise over the past few weeks about Andrew\u2019s living situation. He took up residence at the Royal Lodge for 22 years rent-free as part of an agreement<\/a> that would have kept him there until 2078.<\/p>\n
