EXCLUSIVE<\/strong>: Golden Globe winner Taron Egerton (Carry-On<\/em>) is joining Channing Tatum and Zazie Beetz in\u00a0Kockroach<\/em>, the New York crime pic heralding from producers Andrew Lazar (American Sniper<\/em>) and Kevin Frakes (Hereditary<\/em>).<\/p>\n Egerton takes over in the movie from Oscar Isaac who was announced in late August but is out due to scheduling conflicts.<\/p>\n More from Deadline<\/strong><\/p>\n Lazar today described the film as in the vein of Goodfellas<\/em> and Scarface<\/em>. The synopsis reads: \u201cKockroach <\/em>is the story of a mysterious stranger who takes on New York\u2019s criminal underworld, transforming himself into a larger-than-life crime boss in a city where power is everything.\u201d<\/p>\n The feature adaptation of the novel by William Lashner is in pre-production with filming scheduled to begin in February in Australia.\u00a0Matt Ross (Captain Fantastic<\/em>) will direct from a screenplay by Jonathan Ames (You Were Never Really Here<\/em>) with revisions by Ross.<\/p>\n Black Bear will continue selling international rights at the upcoming AFM. CAA Media Finance and Range Select co-rep domestic.<\/p>\n Heads of department include Colin Gibson, the production designer who won an Oscar for his work on\u00a0Mad Max: Fury Road<\/em>; Emmy-winning cinematographer Adam Arkapaw, whose credits include\u00a0The Order<\/em>,\u00a0The King, Macbeth<\/em>, and the first seasons of Top of the Lake<\/em> and True Detective<\/em>; and VFX Supervisor Jonathan Dearing, known for his work on\u00a0M3ga<\/em>n,\u00a0The Invisible Man<\/em>, and\u00a0Upgrade<\/em>.<\/p>\n \u201cI couldn\u2019t be more excited to welcome Taron to Kockroach <\/em>and to see him team up with Channing and Zazie in this fresh and bold take on the gangster genre.
