Maksim Chmerkovskiy<\/strong><\/a> is open to having a new dance partner.<\/span><\/p>\n

Nearly a week after the former <\/span>Dancing With the Stars<\/span><\/em><\/a> pro and his wife <\/span>Peta Murgatroyd<\/strong><\/a> criticized new pro <\/span>Jan Ravnik<\/strong> for having \u201czero foundation technique\u201d in the ballroom, Maks made a public plea to have an in-person meeting with the <\/span>Taylor Swift<\/strong><\/a> backup dancer.<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cFirst and foremost, I want to apologize to Jan for the way my words made you feel, for hurting your feelings,\u201d the 45-year-old said in an Oct. 30 <\/span>Instagram<\/span><\/a> video. \u201cThere’s a lot more that I want to say. I would like an opportunity to do it over coffee, or any kind of time you have to spare. I would love to meet. I would love to bury the hatchet.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n

He added, \u201cMost importantly, I think you’re going to walk away with knowing me, feeling completely different and, dare I say, we probably might even be friends.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n

While emphasizing that he is \u201cnot <\/span>not<\/span><\/em> a friend\u201d to Jan, Maks offered an explanation for why his comments may have been perceived negatively. <\/span><\/p>\n

Maks went on to note how he was encouraged after Jan delivered “one dance that delivered some sort of direction” but that his momentum went “off the cliff” with his subsequent teachings of the Secret Lives of Mormon Wives<\/em> star.<\/p>\n

He added that his criticism is less about Jan, 30, himself and more about the decision to hire him in the first place.<\/p>\n

“Jan, whoever he is, I have zero against him whatsoever,” the 45-year-old said. “No way, this was a missed opportunity.”<\/p>\n

\u201cMaybe it’s paradoxical, but my personality [is] \u2018I love you, and I will tell you how it is,\u2019 let alone if I don’t know you,\u201d he continued. \u201cSo, my commentary on dance does not come with feelings and emotions, it just comes with [a] completely different range of reasoning.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n

Maks\u2014who won <\/span>Dancing With the Stars<\/span><\/em> in 2014 alongside partner <\/span>Meryl Davis<\/strong>\u2014also addressed the \u201ccrazy\u201d backlash he has faced since he and Peta\u2014who has won the mirrorball trophy twice, in 2012 and 2016\u2014made their comments on an episode of her podcast. <\/span><\/p>\n
