Chris Mundy, showrunner of HBO\u2019s upcoming series Lanterns<\/a><\/strong>, has revealed new details about the Green Lanterns\u2019 powers, sharing how John Stewart\u2019s powers will differ from those of Hal Jordan.<\/p>\n Chris Mundy, the creator and showrunner of HBO\u2019s upcoming series Lanterns, has revealed new details about the Green Lanterns\u2019 powers in the show.<\/p>\n In an interview with Men\u2019s Health<\/a>, Mundy explained that John Stewart\u2019s Green Lantern powers differ from those of Hal Jordan. He described them as deeply rooted in creativity and emotional expression. The creator said, \u201cOne thing we attacked from the beginning was that the Green Lantern powers, a lot of it is based in creativity. To manifest things from the Lantern rings, you\u2019ve got to manifest something from your brain\u2014but also kind of from your soul. What does that look like? What does it feel like?\u201d<\/p>\n Mundy compared the process to that of an artist shaping their work, noting that Aaron Pierre, starring as John Stewart, brought depth to the performance. He explained, \u201cAnd Aaron had to be able to sell that John could have that ability. And that\u2019s what he did. He understood that John would appreciate that aspect of their powers.\u201d<\/p>\n Meanwhile, Hal Jordan\u2019s powers are portrayed as more direct. \u201cWe always joked that Hal just wants to hit everything with a big, green fist,\u201d the creator explained.<\/p>\n In the same interview, Mundy shared that Lanterns takes place across different timelines, which presented a unique challenge. He said, \u201cOur story takes place in a couple of different time periods, and so the challenge was for the characters to be consistent at their core.\u201d<\/p>\n Lanterns is being developed by Warner Bros. Television and DC Studios, with a premiere date expected for HBO Max next year.
