Since the young king was far too young to rule independently, a regency council was established to govern in his stead. His uncle, Edward Seymour, Duke of Somerset, initially dominated the council as Lord Protector. During Edward&#8217;s reign, England underwent significant religious transformation. The boy-king and his advisors pursued aggressively Protestant reforms, introducing the Book of Common Prayer and dismantling much of the Catholic ceremonial that had persisted under Henry VIII&#8217;s reign.<\/p>\n<p>Edward&#8217;s early years were marked by relative stability, but his reign became increasingly turbulent as factional rivalries erupted within the court. Despite his intelligence and education, Edward VI remained a pawn in the hands of powerful nobles competing for influence.
