(Photo by Bruce Glikas\/WireImage)<\/p>\n<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p class=\"mb-4 text-lg md:leading-8 break-words\">Writer\/director <strong>Cameron Crowe<\/strong> has offered an update on his long-in-the works biopic on <strong>Joni Mitchell<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p class=\"mb-4 text-lg md:leading-8 break-words\">Crowe, whose memoir <em>The Uncool<\/em> came out Tuesday, has been attached to the project since 2023 and tells <a rel=\"nofollow\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/variety.com\/2025\/music\/news\/cameron-crowe-uncool-book-rock-memoir-interview-1236566349\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" data-ylk=\"slk:Variety;elm:context_link;itc:0;sec:content-canvas\" class=\"link \"><em>Variety<\/em><\/a> he\u2019s still \u201cworking on\u201d it.<\/p>\n<p class=\"mb-4 text-lg md:leading-8 break-words\">\u201cWe\u2019re gonna do it next year. And I just feel really confident that we are telling that story in a way that you wouldn\u2019t call a traditional so-called biopic,\u201d he explains. \u201cIt\u2019s the telling of her story with amazing input from the artist herself, who is opening her life, her closet, her collection of instruments, her notes, her everything for us to make a movie that is as emotionally authentic as her music.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"mb-4 text-lg md:leading-8 break-words\">He adds, \u201cI just feel really lucky to have spent the last few years finding the way to tell the story that will give you a physical body rush as well as loving her story. &#8230; I can\u2019t wait for you to check it out.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"mb-4 text-lg md:leading-8 break-words\">While there have been all sorts of rumors about who\u2019ll play Joni, Crowe says\u00a0as of now there&#8217;s\u00a0\u201cnothing I can confirm.\u201d But he adds, \u201cI\u2019m just grateful that people are talking about it and that I get to tell the story.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"mb-4 text-lg md:leading-8 break-words\">The movie will be the first one Crowe has written and directed since 2015&#8217;s\u00a0<em>Aloha<\/em>, although he created the 2016 Showtime series\u00a0<em>Roadies\u00a0<\/em>and directed the 2019\u00a0<strong>David Crosby\u00a0<\/strong>documentary\u00a0<em>David Crosby: Remember My Name<\/em>.<\/p>\n<p class=\"mb-4 text-lg md:leading-8 break-words\">Copyright \u00a9 2025, ABC Audio.
