R.E.M<\/strong>.\u2019s Mike Mills,<\/strong> The Black Crowes<\/strong>‘ former drummer Steve Gorman<\/strong> and Hootie & the Blowfish<\/strong> frontman Darius Rucker<\/strong> recently announced they were joining forces for a new supergroup, Howl Owl Howl<\/strong>, and now they\u2019re sharing their first single.<\/p>\n The band has just released the track \u201cMy Cologne<\/a>,\u201d and Mills explains on Instagram<\/a> that it was actually inspired by pop star Ariana Grande<\/strong>.<\/p>\n Mills says in the video, \u201cAriana Grande put out a record not long ago and her first single was called \u2018R.E.M.,’\u201d referring to\u00a0the track on her\u00a02018 album,\u00a0Sweetener.<\/p>\n Despite it being his band\u2019s name,\u00a0Mills didn\u2019t think much of it. He says, \u201cOK, sure, it’s the dream stage of sleep, that’s where we got it. You know, it’s universal, that’s fine.\u201d<\/p>\n Ari went on to launch a\u00a0cosmetics line called\u00a0r.e.m. beauty, and Mills notes that one of the fragrance containers was\u00a0shaped like a cassette tape\u00a0with R.E.M. on the cover.<\/p>\n “And then I said, OK, that’s going over the line. I gotta say something about that,” he says. “So, you know, we’re not upset or anything, but I thought it was just funny.”<\/p>\n His response is\u00a0“My Cologne,” featuring a line in the chorus, “I wanna smell like Ariana Grande and I think she wants you to smell like me.”<\/p>\n Says Mill, “It’s all in good fun and I hope she likes it.”<\/p>\n “My Cologne” is now available via digital outlets<\/a>.<\/p>\n Howl Owl Howl is set to hit the road for a nine-date tour starting Nov. 3 in Indianapolis.
