The concert is a tribute to veterans.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt\u2019s about remembrance,\u201d concertmaster Jae Cosmos Lee said. \u201cAnd about honoring those who\u2019ve served, taking care of the person to the left of them, and to the right of them.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The performance will open with Buck\u2019s &#8220;Festival Overture on the American National Air,&#8221; \u201cThe Star Spangled Banner,\u201d followed by Gould\u2019s &#8220;An American Salute,&#8221; Ravel\u2019s &#8220;Le Tombeau de Couperin,&#8221; and Barber\u2019s &#8220;Adagio for Strings.&#8221;<\/p>\n<partner-banner util-module-path=\"elements\/partner\" fluid=\"\" bottom=\"\" lazy=\"\" class=\"spacer-large\" min-height=\"390\" outstream=\"\"\/>\n<p>After an intermission, the orchestra will perform Copland\u2019s beloved &#8220;Symphony No. 3.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWhen people talk of American sound in classical music, it is Copland\u2019s sound they imagine,\u201d Pirard said. \u201cIn his music there are bustling streets, rumbas danced in a cafe, the immense sky, and the prairie. He has conducted the New York University and Cornell University Orchestras, Ensemble X, Opus Ithaca, the Philharmonic of Moravia, the Metamorphosis Chamber Orchestra, the Lviv Philharmonic, the Mannes School of Music Opera, and the Mannes Orchestra, and served as assistant conductor for the Buffalo Philharmonic and Ensemble 21.<\/p>\n<partner-inline util-module-path=\"elements\/partner\" placement=\"native-article_link\" sizes=\"[[300, 250], [3, 3]]\" min-height=\"250\" fluid=\"\" outstream=\"\"\/><cta-atoms-container-inline util-module-path=\"elements\/cta\" class=\"spacer-large\"\/><\/p>\n<p>He is currently music director of the Cayuga Chamber Orchestra in Ithaca, New York. Born in Belgium, Pirard studied at the Brussels Royal Conservatory of Music and at Juilliard, and earned a master&#8217;s degree in orchestral conducting from The New School. He has served on the faculties of New York University, San Diego State University, Ithaca College and Cornell University.<\/p>\n<p>Donations are being sought to give concert tickets to local veterans. Each $50 gift provides a ticket to be given to local vets through Cape &amp; Islands Veterans Outreach Center, Vet Center of Hyannis, Nicholas G. Xiarhos Foundation, Heroes in Transition and 22Mohawks Veteran Suicide Prevention.
