No feature is expected to even sniff a gross in the eight-digits, which hasn\u2019t happened since the debut of \u201cNovocaine<\/a>\u201d back in March. Among the newcomers, Netflix<\/a> has a second theatrical engagement of \u201cKPop Demon Hunters<\/a>\u201d \u2014 this time with AMC Theatres<\/a>, the world\u2019s largest exhibitor chain, on board \u2014 while Focus Features<\/a> is expanding its acclaimed conspiracy thriller \u201cBugonia<\/a>\u201d after a limited bow.<\/p>\n

But first place looks to go to the third outing of Universal<\/a> and Blumhouse\u2019s horror film du jour \u201cBlack Phone 2<\/a>,\u201d which earned $2.3 million on Friday and is projecting a third weekend gross of $7.6 million, down just 41% for the seasonally appropriate holiday weekend.
