\nSara Cox will run five marathons in five days to raise money for Children in Need (PA)<\/p>\n<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n
\u201cI\u2019ll have that ringing in my ears. There\u2019s no way I can\u2019t finish it. I\u2019ve got to, I\u2019ve got to complete it.\u201d<\/p>\n
Carrying a Pudsey Bear backpack, Sara\u2019s Great Northern Marathon Challenge will see the presenter run, jog and walk through the sweeping moorlands and rolling hills of Northumberland, Durham, North Yorkshire and West Yorkshire, starting from Kielder Forest on November 10 and ending in Pudsey, Leeds, on November 14.<\/p>\n
It will be Radio 2\u2019s longest-ever challenge in terms of duration with Cox\u2019s fellow presenters offering their support and motivation during their shows as well as sharing messages from listeners and guests.<\/p>\n
Speaking about the decision to take part in the challenge, Cox said: \u201cThe problem is, when you get asked to do the Children In Need challenge, because it\u2019s a huge privilege wrapped up in some extreme physical exertion, you can\u2019t say no to it because why would you say no?<\/p>\n
\u201cYou\u2019re getting offered the chance to do a massive challenge that is hopefully going to change loads of children\u2019s lives.<\/p>\n
\u201cThe way I\u2019m doing it, mentally, is I\u2019m doing lots of five miles because at the end of five or six miles, that\u2019s when somebody will put some ice on my knee and hopefully give me a bar of chocolate or something and then I\u2019ll get out to the next one.\u201d<\/p>\n
Cox also received some advice from Radio 2 presenter Paddy McGuinness who completed a cycle challenge last year and raised \u00a310.3 million for the charity.<\/p>\n
She said: \u201cThe build-up itself is actually quite hard and Paddy was good. He was like, \u2018look, just block out all the noise. Block out all the noise, and just get training\u2019, which was helpful.<\/p>\n
\u201cThe challenge has completely taken over my life, the training and the build up to it.<\/p>\n
\u201cIt\u2019s all hard work, but it\u2019s all for a really good reason.<\/p>\n
\u201cYou don\u2019t really realise that there\u2019s hundreds of charities all around the UK getting help by Children In Need and you don\u2019t really realise the amazing work they\u2019re doing until you need them yourself, god forbid, you get a diagnosis out of the blue, or your child starts to struggle.<\/p>\n
\u201cSo I think that\u2019s the brilliant thing with Children In Need. It just shines a light on all these charities that just day by day, they just keep on keeping on \u2013 supporting children and their families.<\/p>\n
\u201cI feel like it\u2019s massively important to just shout about these charities run by amazing people who dedicate their lives to helping kids. That\u2019s sort of the magic of Children In Need.\u201d<\/p>\n
