The director has always had a really tender approach to portraying monsters in movies, from <em>Pan\u2019s Labyrinth<\/em> to <em>The Shape of Water<\/em>. Despite my massive excitement for the movie, there was one change made during production that had me less interested. I found him to be especially haunting in <em>Euphoria,<\/em> and was impressed by his performance as Elvis Presley in <em>Priscilla<\/em>. But, Andrew Garfield is one of my favorite actors of all time. I remember seeing him in <em>The Amazing Spider-Man<\/em>, and feeling like he brought so much depth to Peter Parker, and following many of his performances since \u2013 with one of my other highlights from his career being in 2021\u2019s <em>Tick, Tick\u2026 Boom!<\/em><\/p>\n<p class=\"mb-4 text-lg md:leading-8 break-words\">But, the actor has never really done a horror-leaning genre film. The idea of him playing The Creature in <em>Frankenstein<\/em> (which is one of my top books ever) and being directed by <a rel=\"nofollow\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.cinemablend.com\/movies\/reasons-why-guillermo-del-toro-is-a-master-of-horror-and-fantasy\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" data-ylk=\"slk:the master of horror and fantasy;elm:context_link;itc:0;sec:content-canvas\" class=\"link \"><u>the master of horror and fantasy<\/u><\/a>, and one of the filmmakers I most respect working today just made me feel like I was living in a simulation in the best way, and I know I wasn\u2019t the only one. The movie itself took me back to reading the novel for the first time in high school, and falling in love with Mary Shelley\u2019s gothic classic that has a lot to say about the nature of humanity through its often horrific plotline.<\/p>\n<p class=\"mb-4 text-lg md:leading-8 break-words\">One of the pivotal reasons why I loved <em>Frankenstein<\/em> is because of Elordi specifically. The actor\u2019s specific stature of 6 &#8216;5, and his innocent yet chiseled features is exactly the kind of creature that I never knew I wanted to see, but instantly clicked for me as the perfect casting choice for del Toro\u2019s movie. Elordi, who <a rel=\"nofollow\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.yahoo.com\/entertainment\/movies\/articles\/jacob-elordi-full-frankenstein-transformation-142529695.html\" data-ylk=\"slk:has been called \u201chot Frankenstein,\u201d;elm:context_link;itc:0;sec:content-canvas;outcm:mb_qualified_link;_E:mb_qualified_link;ct:story;\" class=\"link  yahoo-link\"><u>has been called \u201chot Frankenstein,\u201d<\/u><\/a> brings some really beautiful emotion and gentleness to the role of the creature, while also having moments where I completely feared him and what he might do. By the end of the movie, I was nearly in tears having gone through the journey, and so much has to do with Elordi\u2019s performance.<\/p>\n<p class=\"mb-4 text-lg md:leading-8 break-words\">If you were disappointed like me about the recasting, I implore you to move that aside, and check out <em>Frankenstein<\/em> \u2013 coming to Netflix on November 7.
