Spooky season is over, which means it\u2019s officially Mariah Carey season<\/a>. It also means streaming services are already loading up on Christmas movies. On pure principle, they\u2019ll be omitted here \u2014 Santa doesn\u2019t need a full two months of our attention. Also, while not a movie, worth noting that season two of The Vince Staples Show <\/em>premieres on November 6th. The first season is funny, surreal, and just an absolute blast. I\u2019ve got high hopes for season two. Here\u2019s the best new movies coming to streaming this week.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

Eddington<\/em><\/strong> \u2014 Ari Aster\u2019s latest just further proves that he is a master at making people squirm. It\u2019s tense, awkward, and laugh-out-loud funny. RIYL: No Country for Old Men<\/em>, the British Office<\/em>, on-the-nose political satire.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

Hellboy<\/em><\/strong> \u2014 Guillermo del Toro\u2019s comic book romp is well worth a watch. It\u2019s a little slower-paced than other comic movies of the time, but that\u2019s part of why it holds up 20 years later.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

\n

Beasts of the Southern Wild<\/em><\/strong> \u2014 A visually wild tear-jerker that looks like it cost at least 10 times as much to make as it did. That a movie that looks this good could be made for just $1.8 million should make most of Hollywood feel ashamed.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

\n

Baby Driver<\/strong><\/em> \u2014 The story isn\u2019t particularly complicated, but the soundtrack crushes, and the stunt work is second to none. Baby Driver<\/em> has, perhaps, the highest concentration of high-quality car chases per-minute in all of cinema.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

\n

Judas and the Black Messiah <\/em><\/strong>\u2014 The betrayal of Black Panther chairman Fred Hampton isn\u2019t an easy subject to tackle on film. But the incredible cast featuring Daniel Kaluuya, LaKeith Stanfield, and Jesse Plemons delivers pitch-perfect performances.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

Paddington 2<\/strong><\/em> \u2014 There\u2019s nothing to say about Paddington 2<\/em> that hasn\u2019t already been said. It\u2019s pure joy. If it doesn\u2019t make you smile, then it\u2019s time for some serious self-reflection.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

Casino<\/em><\/strong> \u2014 This isn\u2019t Scorsese\u2019s best movie. Not by a long shot. But even his lesser films would rank pretty highly in any other director\u2019s filmography.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

\n

Before the Devil Knows You\u2019re Dead<\/strong><\/em> \u2014 Another lesser film from an iconic director, but one worth watching. Sidney Lumet\u2019s Before the Devil Knows You\u2019re Dead<\/em> never rises to the majestic highs of Dog Day Afternoon<\/em>, Network<\/em>, 12 Angry Men<\/em>, Serpico<\/em>, or even The Wiz<\/em>. But it\u2019s a fantastically tense watch featuring incredible performances from Philip Seymour Hoffman, Marisa Tomei, Ethan Hawke, Michael Shannon, Amy Ryan, and Br\u00edan F. O\u2019Byrne.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

The Princess Bride<\/em><\/strong> \u2014 Hello. My name is Inigo Montoya. You killed my father. Prepare to die.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

Don\u2019t Be A Menace To South Central While Drinking Your Juice In The Hood<\/strong><\/em> \u2014 I will admit that I haven\u2019t seen this movie in a long time, and I might be letting nostalgia cloud my judgment. But this is the Wayans brothers at the height of their powers, fresh off of In Living Color<\/em>. Plus, they just don\u2019t make many comedies of this ilk anymore.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

\n

Matilda<\/em><\/strong> – This is basically the platonic ideal of a children\u2019s movie. Based on the excellent Roald Dahl book of the same name, deftly directed by Danny DeVito, and featuring one of the finest comedic performances by a child actor ever from Mara Wilson.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

\n

Bones and All<\/strong><\/em> \u2014 A 2022 cannibal romance road trip movie from the director of Call Me by Your Name<\/em>, starring Taylor Russell and Timoth\u00e9e Chalamet with a score by Trent Reznor and Atticus Ross. If that doesn\u2019t spark your interest, I don\u2019t know what will.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

The Social Network<\/strong><\/em> \u2014 Directed by David Fincher, written by Aaron Sorkin, but perhaps best known for introducing us to Trent Reznor, the film composer. Watching this is a reminder of a simpler time when we thought Mark Zuckerberg was just kind of a jerk, instead of some sort of techno-fascist.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n
