Famous TV director Ralph Senesky has died. He was 102.<\/p>\n

He passed away this past Saturday in a California hospital, said his niece and costume designer Lisa Lupo-Silvas to THR<\/a>.<\/p>\n

\u201cHe was 100 precent sharp until the end,\u201d she said. \u201cHe may have been 102, but he had a mind like he was 30.\u201d<\/p>\n

Senesky is well-known for directing the three-part pilot for Dynasty<\/em>, as well as the return of Ellen on The Waltons<\/em> and 6 episodes of the original Star Trek<\/em> series.<\/p>\n

He is also well known for directing one of the earliest gay storylines on television in the 1963 ABC drama Breaking Point<\/em>.<\/p>\n

For Trekkies, he\u2019s known for being the director of some of the series\u2019 best early storylines. The season one episode This Side of Paradise<\/em> is known for being one of the best episodes surrounding Spock\u2019s early character development, and the season two episode Metamorphosis <\/em>is regarded as one of the best episodes by fans of the series.<\/p>\n

Unfortunately, Senesky was a victim of circumstance. In season three, he directed the episode The Tholian Webb<\/em>, which saw the main characters in tight, zipper-less suits that had to be sewn-in. When the actors needed a bathroom break, they had to be unsewn out of the suits. He was fired by the third day of shooting for being a few scenes behind schedule.<\/p>\n

According to THR<\/a>, series creator Gene Roddenberry was \u201coutraged, apologetic and sympathetic\u201d when he called Senesky.<\/p>\n

After many other credits, including The Courtship of Eddie\u2019s Father<\/em>,\u00a0Dan August<\/em>,\u00a0Nanny and the Professor<\/em>,\u00a0Dr. Kildare, Naked City<\/em>,\u00a012 O\u2019Clock High<\/em>,\u00a0The Fugitive<\/em>,\u00a0The<\/em>\u00a0F.B.I.,<\/em>\u00a0Ironside,<\/em>\u00a0The Partridge Family<\/em>,\u00a0Barnaby Jones<\/em>,\u00a0Insight<\/em>,\u00a0Hart to Hart<\/em>\u00a0and\u00a0The Paper Chase<\/em>, his final credit was for directing the film The Right Regrets, starring his actress friend Marlyn Mason.<\/p>\n

\u201cRalph was a walking encyclopedia on film history,\u201d Mason told said. \u201cWatching an old classic with him was equal to a semester at Harvard\u2026 He chose to stay in the world of television, but when you look at his work, you feel you\u2019re looking at a feature movie.\u201d<\/p>\n

He is survived by his brother, his niece, and his great-nephew.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n
