The Young and the Restless<\/a>\u00a0has brought back one of its most infamous characters, Matt Clark, now played by veteran soap actor Roger Howarth.<\/span> Fans initially believed Howarth would play Mitch Bacall, Sienna Bacall\u2019s husband. But the October 31 episode revealed a shocking twist: Mitch is actually Matt Clark, the notorious villain from Nick and Sharon\u2019s past.<\/p>\n Roger Howarth recently opened up about returning to daytime television and diving into the role of one of Y&R\u2019s most dangerous characters.<\/p>\n Speaking to Soap Opera Digest<\/a>, Roger Howarth said he felt honored when Executive Producer Josh Griffith approached him for the role. \u201cI trust Josh completely.\u201d he shared. \u201cMatt Clark is an awesome character.\u201d<\/p>\n Howarth credited the show\u2019s costume designer, Mandi Line, for helping him fully immerse himself in the role. \u201cShe thought of it all, man. She made me feel like it was going to be easy to slip into the character,\u201d he explained.<\/p>\n Howarth said he took the time to understand the character\u2019s dark past with the help of the writers, who explained the character\u2019s history. He added that Matt has been pretending to live as Mitch for so long that he\u2019s almost started to believe it himself.<\/p>\n The actor hinted that fans won\u2019t have to wait long to see Matt\u2019s darker side. \u201cI\u2019m really thankful that I get to play a character with mischief and devious and villainous qualities,\u201d he admitted. Howarth described him as \u201cthis is a true bad guy.\u201d<\/p>\n He added that Matt faked his own death years ago just to get revenge, which shows the kind of person he is, and it has only made him more ruthless. He revealed that Matt will continue pretending to be Mitch for as long as possible. \u201cHe\u2019s been telling the same lie for so long that he thinks it\u2019s the truth, and I think that\u2019s a beautifully human and broken thing to investigate through story.\u201d<\/p>\n Howarth also expressed his gratitude to fans for their warm response to his casting. \u201cI\u2019m really touched by the support.
