Frontman Tim Burgess says The Charlatans “just want to enjoy the moment – like the old days” as they release their latest record.<\/p>\n
We Are Love is the indie band from Northwich in Cheshire’s 14th studio album in 35 years.<\/p>\n
A key part of the Madchester scene in the late 1980s and early 90s, The Charlatans achieved top 10 success with The Only One I Know in 1990 before going on to have a string of hits including One To Another and North Country Boy.<\/p>\n
Speaking about their latest offering, lead singer Burgess told BBC North West Tonight<\/a>: “It’s nothing like we’ve done before, but then it’s exactly like what we’ve done before. It’s a weird thing that you are creating a new song that has familiarity.”<\/p>\n Burgess said all of the new album’s songs were about “love” and “the ups, the downs and the turnarounds” experienced during “35 years in a band with people you love”.<\/p>\n He added: “Hopefully it will propel us into the future.”<\/p>\n The singer said he was “really proud” the band had never split up during 35 years together.<\/p>\n Guitarist Baz Ketley said: “It felt really good to be back together because we wanted to make it not just alright but something that mattered.”<\/p>\n The Charlatans are currently touring the UK with gigs in venues including Glasgow, Cardiff, Manchester and London.<\/p>\n The Charlatans starred on the Other Stage at Glastonbury in 2019 [BBC]<\/p>\n Listen to the best of BBC Radio Manchester on Sounds<\/a> and follow BBC Manchester on Facebook<\/a>, X<\/a>, and Instagram<\/a>.
