Jennifer Lawrence has said she no longer feels it appropriate to speak out against the Trump administration, lest she exacerbate unhelpful debate and further divisions.<\/p>\n
\u201cI don\u2019t really know if I should,\u201d said Lawrence in an interview with the New York Times<\/a>. \u201cDuring the first Trump administration, I felt like I was running around like a chicken with my head cut off. But as we\u2019ve learned, election after election, celebrities do not make a difference whatsoever on who people vote for.<\/p>\n \u201cSo then what am I doing? I\u2019m just sharing my opinion on something that\u2019s going to add fuel to a fire that\u2019s ripping the country apart.\u201d<\/p>\n Lawrence has previously been open about voting for both right and leftwing candidates for the presidency. Raised by conservative Republicans in Kentucky, she voted for John McCain in 2008 before joining the Democratic party and saying she realised during Obama\u2019s administration that voting Republican was voting against her own rights as a woman.<\/p>\n In 2015, she said Donald Trump\u2019s election to the White House would be \u201cthe end of the world\u201d<\/a> and endorsed Joe Biden in the 2020 election. In 2024, she lent her support to Kamala Harris, \u201cbecause I think she\u2019s an amazing candidate and I know that she will do whatever she can to protect reproductive rights\u201d.<\/p>\n Lawrence was joined by most of Hollywood in her rejection of Donald Trump<\/a> as a candidate for re-election, but the lack of leverage stars have over the voting intentions of the public was highlighted by Trump\u2019s victory.<\/p>\n \u201cThe second term feels different,\u201d said Lawrence of Trump\u2019s presidency. \u201cBecause he said what he was going to do. We knew what he did for four years. He was very clear. And that\u2019s what we chose.\u201d<\/p>\n Lawrence is promoting Die, My Love<\/a>, Lynne Ramsay\u2019s drama in which she plays a new mother who struggles with her mental health in rural Montana. Speaking at a press conference for the film in Venice, Lawrence said of Israel\u2019s bombings in Gaza<\/a>: \u201cI\u2019m terrified. It\u2019s mortifying.
