Pluribus is a new TV show from Breaking Bad\u2019s<\/em> creator that premieres later this week<\/a> on Apple TV. And a roundup of recent previews of the show, including one from a noteworthy critic, make it sound very much like a can\u2019t-miss series.<\/p>\n

This Friday, November 7, the first two episodes of Pluribus arrive on Apple TV<\/a>. For those especially eager, the show technically drops at 9:00p.m. Eastern \/ 6:00p.m. Pacific on Thursday the 6th.<\/p>\n

Though full reviews are embargoed until then, a growing number of publications have offered in-depth previews that tease a show well worth watching. No surprise considering creator Vince Gilligan\u2019s resume.<\/p>\n

For example, today at Rolling Stone<\/em>, critic Alan Sepinwall wrote<\/a>:<\/p>\n

Pluribus<\/em> has a reported budget of $15 million per episode, five times more than what the average Breaking Bad<\/em> cost\u2026Without a big star, without a familiar title, and with a premise that Gilligan wanted kept under wraps until the Nov. 7 premiere, Apple TV+ is gambling a lot of money that merely saying they have a new series from the creator of Breaking Bad<\/em> will be enough to draw people in.\u00a0<\/p>\n

\u201cWhen you put it that way, you kind of scared me,\u201d says Gilligan.\u00a0<\/p>\n

He shouldn\u2019t be scared. Pluribus<\/em> is a dazzling piece of entertainment. It takes advantage of everything Gilligan learned about patient storytelling with Breaking Bad<\/em> and Saul,<\/em> then combines it with the high-concept ambition of X-Files,<\/em> as well as the visual flair Gilligan has developed as a director on all his shows. Though the plot involves every person on the planet, the focus is often entirely on Carol, as Gilligan relies on all the things he realized Seehorn could do \u2014 tragedy, slapstick, and sheer screen presence \u2014 during her time playing attorney Kim Wexler on Saul<\/em>. There are long stretches where we\u2019re just watching Carol struggle through various tasks, like digging a grave. And it\u2019s riveting.\u00a0<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n

Adding to these words of praise, Sepinwall also writes on his Substack<\/a> that, Stranger Things possibly aside, he considers Pluribus \u201cthe big TV event of the rest of the year.\u201d<\/p>\n

Vince Gilligan has done a lot of press over the last week, sharing tidbits on everything from Pluribus\u2019 origins and genre to how long the show might run.<\/p>\n

Gilligan told The Verge<\/em><\/a> that, while he had wanted to return to sci-fi after his previous run on The X-Files, with Pluribus he \u201cdidn\u2019t make a conscious decision to make another sci-fi show. Instead, \u201cI realized there was no other way to explain the happenings other than science fiction.\u201d<\/p>\n

Pluribus is already picked up for a second season, but Gilligan told Polygon<\/em><\/a> he has plans for at least a third as well\u2014assuming the series is a hit.<\/p>\n

\u201cIf you held a gun to my head, I would say three seasons. At least I would hope for three seasons\u2026I said that in the early days of\u00a0Breaking Bad<\/em>\u2026and then it turned out to be six, which was great. There turned out to be more story than I thought was possible. So maybe that\u2019ll be the case here. Maybe it won\u2019t be. I don\u2019t know.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n
