Comedian Jon Stewart is sticking with Comedy Central and \u201cThe Daily Show.\u201d<\/p>\n
The network announced on Monday that Stewart, who resumed his hosting duties after President Trump won reelection last year, had signed a new contract to host \u201cThe Daily Show\u201d through 2026.<\/p>\n
\u201cJon Stewart continues to elevate the genre he created. His return is an ongoing commitment to the incisive comedy and sharp commentary that define\u00a0\u2018The Daily Show,\u2019\u201d Ari Pearce, head of Comedy Central, said in a statement. \u201cThe renewal is a win for audiences, for Comedy Central and for all our programming partners.\u00a0We\u2019re proud to support Jon and the extraordinary news team.\u201d<\/p>\n
Stewart, who served a brief stint hosting a show on Apple TV, is one of several satirists and late-night comedians who have made a name for themselves in recent years mocking President Trump and his allies.<\/p>\n
There had been speculation about Stewart\u2019s future at the network following Comedy Central\u2019s parent company, Paramount, merging with entertainment giant Skydance this summer.<\/p>\n
\u201cNew Paramount,\u201d as the company has been called, is led by David Ellison, the son of tech tycoon and Trump ally Larry Ellison.<\/p>\n
Stewart has been sharply critical of Paramount over its cancellation of \u201cThe Late Show with Stephen Colbert\u201d and settlement with President Trump in connection with a \u201c60 Minutes\u201d interview it aired with former Vice President Kamala Harris last year. <\/p>\n
