Jennifer Lawrence<\/a> has not been shy about talking politics in the past, especially when it came to slamming Donald Trump. But now, she’s questioning that decision.<\/p>\n \u201cI don\u2019t really know if I should,\u201d Lawrence told\u00a0The New York Times<\/a>\u00a0on the outlet\u2019s\u00a0The Interview\u00a0podcast<\/a> when asked how she feels about speaking out now. \u201cDuring the first Trump administration, I felt like I was running around like a chicken with my head cut off. But as we\u2019ve learned, election after election, celebrities do not make a difference whatsoever on who people vote for. So then what am I doing? I\u2019m just sharing my opinion on something that\u2019s going to add fuel to a fire that\u2019s ripping the country apart.”<\/p>\n When Trump first announced his candidacy in 2015, Lawrence was not afraid to voice her political concerns publicly. For instance, Lawrence told EW that year<\/a>, \u201cIf Donald Trump becomes president, that will be the end of the world. I genuinely believe that reality television has reached the ultimate place where now even things like this might just be for entertainment.\u201d<\/p>\n And after Trump won, Lawrence wrote<\/a>\u00a0an essay for Broadly. \u201cDo not let this defeat you \u2014 let this enrage you!\u201d she wrote at the time. \u201cLet it motivate you! Let this be the fire you didn\u2019t have before. If you are an immigrant, if you are a person of color, if you are LGBTQ+, if you are a woman \u2014 don\u2019t be afraid, be loud!\u201d<\/p>\n Now, she told the Times that, at 35 and a lot more experienced in Hollywood, she is finding herself “in a complicated recalibration because I\u2019m also an artist,” she explained. “I don\u2019t want to start turning people off to films and to art that could change consciousness or change the world because they don\u2019t like my political opinions,” she added. “I want to protect my craft so that you can still get lost in what I\u2019m doing. And if I can\u2019t say something that\u2019s going to speak to some kind of peace or lowering the temperature or some sort of solution, I don\u2019t want to be a part of the problem. I don\u2019t want to make the problem worse.”<\/p>\n When the outlet asked the Oscar winner if she regrets how she “dealt with things before,” Lawrence admitted, “Probably? I regret everything I\u2019ve ever done or said. I\u2019m going to take the zip drives out of all of these cameras when I leave. The second term feels different. Because he said what he was going to do. We knew what he did for four years. He was very clear.
