And one of the most interesting phenomena (musically at least) is making a video of a song that is years or even decades old.<\/p>\n<p class=\"\" style=\"white-space:pre-wrap;\">For example, Clap Your Hands Say Yeah refused to make a video for what has become their most popular song. Yet here we are 20 years later with a new video for <a rel=\"nofollow\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=hMpx2pQZ8P0\"><span style=\"text-decoration:underline\">\u201cThe Skin of My Yellow Country Teeth.\u201d<\/span><\/a><\/p>\n<p class=\"\" style=\"white-space:pre-wrap;\">The same situation applied to \u201cReal Love Baby,\u201d a song by Father John Misty released in 2016 and whose new video has over 2.3 million views. There are also new videos for classics like Lynyrd Skynyrd\u2019s \u201cFree Bird,\u201d Bob Marley\u2019s \u201cNo Woman No Cry,\u201d LLCool J\u2019s \u201cRock The Bells\u201d and even Peggy Lee\u2019s classic \u201cFever,\u201d which was released over 60 years ago.<\/p>\n<p class=\"\" style=\"white-space:pre-wrap;\">There was an <a rel=\"nofollow\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.nytimes.com\/2025\/08\/13\/arts\/music\/music-videos-talking-heads-lucy-dacus.html\"><span style=\"text-decoration:underline\">article in The New York Times<\/span><\/a> on new videos that ended with this quote from a music industry executive: \u201cFor a 15-year-old kid out there on Spotify, whether something is five minutes old, 10 years old or 50 years old, it\u2019s still new to them.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"\" style=\"white-space:pre-wrap;\">Amen!<\/p>\n<p class=\"\" style=\"white-space:pre-wrap;\">Here\u2019s the latest NMTDS:<\/p>\n<p class=\"\" style=\"white-space:pre-wrap;\">John Fogerty: <a rel=\"nofollow\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=_7PUPNxsRQ0\"><span style=\"text-decoration:underline\">\u201cRun Through The Jungle\u201d from Creedence Clearwater Revival \u201cChronicle\u201d<\/span><\/a> and <a rel=\"nofollow\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=0Ep15RyuZLQ\"><span style=\"text-decoration:underline\">\u201cJohn Fogerty Legacy: The Creedence Clearwater Revival Years.\u201d<\/span><\/a><\/p>\n<p class=\"\" style=\"white-space:pre-wrap;\">The story of Fogerty\u2019s decades-long quest to regain the publishing rights to his music reads like a bad television movie, fortunately one with a happy ending. \u201cLegacy\u201d is John\u2019s re-recording of music from the CCR era and it is hard in most cases to tell the 50 plus year difference which is the way he wanted it.<\/p>\n<p class=\"\" style=\"white-space:pre-wrap;\"><a rel=\"nofollow\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=LwpmikfHzo4\"><span style=\"text-decoration:underline\">Sarah McLachlan: \u201cBetter Broken\u201d<\/span><\/a><\/p>\n<p class=\"\" style=\"white-space:pre-wrap;\">This is the lead single from Sarah\u2019s 10th studio album \u201cBetter Broken\u201d and her first since \u201cWonderland\u201d in 2016. She is known not only for her artistic endeavors but also for her philanthropy.<\/p>\n<p class=\"\" style=\"white-space:pre-wrap;\"><a rel=\"nofollow\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=YNbBZdj-Xds\"><span style=\"text-decoration:underline\">Molly Tuttle: \u201cThe Highway Knows\u201d<\/span><\/a><\/p>\n<p class=\"\" style=\"white-space:pre-wrap;\">From Molly\u2019s fifth solo album \u201cSo Long Little Miss Sunshine.\u201d She is the first woman to win the International Bluegrass Music Association\u2019s Guitar Player of the Year award. Like many current bluegrass artists (see Billy Strings) she mixes it up with some pop and rock music influences.<\/p>\n<p class=\"\" style=\"white-space:pre-wrap;\"><a rel=\"nofollow\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=xqlCBtV2vT8\"><span style=\"text-decoration:underline\">John Kongos: \u201cNature\u2019s Game\u201d<\/span><\/a><\/p>\n<p class=\"\" style=\"white-space:pre-wrap;\">Kongos is a South African singer-songwriter whose combination of rock and tribal rhythms produced the 1971 hits \u201cHe\u2019s Gonna Step On You Again\u201d and \u201cTokoloshe Man.\u201d According to the Guinness Book of Records, Kongos was the first artist to incorporate samples. \u201cNature\u2019s Game\u201d is an updated version of an unreleased song from 1986 co-produced here\u00a0 with his son\u2019s band Kongos<\/p>\n<p class=\"\" style=\"white-space:pre-wrap;\"><a rel=\"nofollow\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=hDwuydv7j9k\"><span style=\"text-decoration:underline\">Alabama Shakes: \u201cAnother Life\u201d<\/span><\/a><\/p>\n<p class=\"\" style=\"white-space:pre-wrap;\">It\u2019s been almost 10 years since we\u2019ve had any new Shakes music though lead singer and guitarist Brittany Howard has released two brilliant solo albums. The band is back together and touring and has promised (hopefully) that there is more music to come.<\/p>\n<p class=\"\" style=\"white-space:pre-wrap;\"><a rel=\"nofollow\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=aFzqrK7_dA0\"><span style=\"text-decoration:underline\">Ethel Cain: \u201cWaco, Texas\u201d<\/span><\/a><\/p>\n<p class=\"\" style=\"white-space:pre-wrap;\">I love artists who march to a different drummer and Ethel (her alias) certainly fits that description. Her latest \u201cWilloughby Tucker, I\u2019ll Always Love You\u201d features a wide spectrum of music ranging from pop-rock to what has been described as \u201csprawling abstract noise.\u201d And this is not a Tik Tok-friendly album with the shortest song clocking in at almost 5 minutes and the longest over 15.<\/p>\n<p class=\"\" style=\"white-space:pre-wrap;\"><a rel=\"nofollow\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=QnuXyEHQNFI\"><span style=\"text-decoration:underline\">Maren Morris: \u201cbe a bitch\u201d<\/span><\/a><\/p>\n<p class=\"\" style=\"white-space:pre-wrap;\">She has country roots but her seventh album \u201dDreamsicle\u201d owes as much to pop and R&amp;B influences and there\u2019s even some subtle hints of hip-hop. But with Maren you expect the unexpected. Noted for her outspoken views on political and social issues, not to mention country music itself, she was named as one of the 100 Greatest Country Artists of All Time.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p class=\"\" style=\"white-space:pre-wrap;\"><a rel=\"nofollow\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=WMm6G1S9sIs\"><span style=\"text-decoration:underline\">Shinedown: \u201dThree Six Five\u201d<\/span><\/a><\/p>\n<p class=\"\" style=\"white-space:pre-wrap;\">The song is to be one of the cuts on the band&#8217;s upcoming eighth studio album. Shinedown is a major force in hard rock music and #1 on Billboard\u2019s Greatest All Time Mainstream Rock Artist Chart. Every one of their 33 singles has charted in the Top 5.<\/p>\n<p class=\"\" style=\"white-space:pre-wrap;\"><a rel=\"nofollow\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=ph_nvka7QI8\"><span style=\"text-decoration:underline\">Midlake: \u201cThe Ghouls\u201d<\/span><\/a><\/p>\n<p class=\"\" style=\"white-space:pre-wrap;\">This is from the band\u2019s sixth studio album \u201cA Bridge To Far.\u201d The band is labeled folk-rock, which doesn\u2019t fit a band of jazz musicians who have ventured musically into the realms of progressive and alternative rock.<\/p>\n<p class=\"\" style=\"white-space:pre-wrap;\"><a rel=\"nofollow\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=2oBv2OTWh8c\"><span style=\"text-decoration:underline\">Eric Hilton: \u201cBurkina Faso\u201d<\/span><\/a><\/p>\n<p class=\"\" style=\"white-space:pre-wrap;\">I am a big fan of Thievery Corporation, an American electronic duo. To list all the musical genres they have explored over 10 studio albums and nine compilations would take too much space. And the band\u2019s Eric Hilton has been just as wide-ranging through his nine solo albums.<\/p>\n<p class=\"\" style=\"white-space:pre-wrap;\">And speaking of videos, I don\u2019t usually feature them, but here is a video for the <a rel=\"nofollow\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=xGaZBfJOyAc\"><span style=\"text-decoration:underline\">Lady Gaga song \u201cThe Dead Dance\u201d<\/span><\/a> that was directed by famed director Tim Burton \u2014 Batman, Beetlejuice, Planet of the Apes, Pee-wee\u2019s Big Adventure, and Beetlejuice Beetlejuice, to name just a few.<\/p>\n<p class=\"\" style=\"white-space:pre-wrap;\">Till next time, good listening<\/p>\n<p class=\"\" style=\"white-space:pre-wrap;\">\u00a0<\/p>\n<p class=\"\" style=\"white-space:pre-wrap;\"><em>David Hersrud is a third-generation South Dakota native.
