The lead track is a newly recorded cover of James Brown\u2019s \u201cTry Me\u201d featuring the Dirty Delta Blues band from the original tour in support of <em>The Greatest<\/em>.<\/p>\n<p class=\"mb-4 text-lg md:leading-8 break-words\">Those musicians include Jon Spencer Blues Explosion guitarist Judah Bauer, Delta 72 keyboardist Gregg Foreman, bassist Erik Paparozzi and Dirty Three drummer Jim White. They re-teamed for the <em>Redux<\/em> sessions with Cat Power\u2019s Chan Marshall at Church House Studios in Austin, Texas, and were joined by <em>The Greatest<\/em> producer\/engineer Stuart Sikes.<\/p>\n<p class=\"mb-4 text-lg md:leading-8 break-words\">More from Spin:<\/p>\n<p class=\"mb-4 text-lg md:leading-8 break-words\">The EP is rounded out by a cover of Prince\u2019s \u201cNothing Compares 2 U\u201d in tribute to legendary late soul guitarist and <em>The Greatest<\/em> contributor Teenie Hodges, plus an updated take on album track \u201cCould We\u201d that more resembles how it was performed on the supporting tour.<\/p>\n<p class=\"mb-4 text-lg md:leading-8 break-words\">\u201cMarshall once suggested that her sad songs might be seen as triumphant for how their acceptance of sorrow could create strength,\u201d SPIN wrote in its <a rel=\"nofollow\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.spin.com\/2006\/01\/cat-power-greatest-matador\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" data-ylk=\"slk:contemporaneous review;elm:context_link;itc:0;sec:content-canvas\" class=\"link \">contemporaneous review<\/a> of <em>The Greatest<\/em>. \u201cThat\u2019s the definition of soul music. Her title track might refer to a boxer (a city? a nation? a singer?) who \u2018wanted to be the greatest\u2019 until \u2018the rush of the flood\u2019 changed everything. Read it as literally as you like. Either way, the point is that there can be honor in owning up to your failures, your shame.
