Maury Povich opened up on Bunnie Xo\u2019s Dumb Blonde <\/em>podcast about how he and his wife Connie Chung decided to adopt and how they went about doing it<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/li>\n He described their decision to adopt as the best\u201d decision they made and they \u201cwouldn\u2019t take it back”<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/li>\n Povich and Chung welcomed son Matthew, 30, through adoption in 1995 after they struggled to have a child<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n Maury Povich<\/a> is getting candid about his and wife Connie Chung<\/a>\u2019s decision to adopt.<\/p>\n The Maury<\/em> alum, 86, opened up on Bunnie Xo<\/a>\u2019s Dumb Blonde<\/a> <\/em>podcast about how he and his wife \u201cwent through the same stuff\u201d that the podcaster is currently going through while trying to have a baby<\/a> with her husband, Jelly Roll<\/a>.<\/p>\n \u201cWe tried to get pregnant,\u201d Povich shared of him and Chung, 79. \u201cAnd this is \u2014 I’m telling you, this is over 30 years ago. And so Connie had to take time off from CBS, and it became a big story that we were trying to get pregnant.”<\/p>\n \u201cAnd [the] late show guys, you know, Jay Leno and everybody was kind of making fun of [it]. \u2018I wonder if Maury and Connie are doing it tonight?,’ \u201d he recalled. \u201cYou know? Doing all this kind of stuff to the point where Fox had this great show called In Living in Color<\/em>. They did a skit on Connie and I in bed trying to get pregnant and Jim Carrey<\/a> played me.\u201d<\/p>\n Povich said he and Chung \u201cfinally adopted\u201d because \u201cwe couldn’t do it,\u201d and explained that \u201cit was the best\u201d decision they made and they \u201cwouldn\u2019t take it back.\u201d Povich and Chung welcomed son Matthew, 30, through in 1995.<\/p>\n \u201cFirst of all, Connie says, when we’re starting to adopt, Connie says to the lawyer that we hired, \u2018So we want a child who is half Chinese and half Jewish,\u2019 \u201d he recalled. \u201cAnd the lawyer says, \u2018You won’t live long enough. Nobody comes up like that. It’s not gonna happen.\u2019\u201d<\/p>\n While the search went off to a rocky start, they eventually found their son Matthew.<\/p>\n \u201cSo we have this guy, [Matthew,] and he’s just spectacular,\u201d the actor and producer said with a smile. \u201cAnd he’s now 30. He’s engaged. The tabloids find out.\u201d<\/p>\n Despite this, Chung shared during a September 2024 interview with Today<\/em><\/a> that welcoming Matthew into the family was \u201cthe most wonderful thing.\u201d<\/p>\n \u201cI was concentrating on myself and my job and everything.
