After nearly a decade of silence, Hot Tub Time Machine<\/strong>\u2019s Craig Robinson<\/strong> has given an update on Part 3<\/strong>. The iconic comedy franchise, which began with the 2010 cult favorite about four friends who accidentally travel back to 1986 through a magical hot tub, could be preparing for a long-awaited comeback.<\/p>\n It\u2019s been over 10 years since Hot Tub Time Machine 2 hit theaters, but according to franchise star Craig Robinson, the third movie might be closer than fans think. While promoting his upcoming Netflix film In Your Dreams, Robinson shared a hopeful update on the long-delayed sequel.<\/p>\n \u201cIt\u2019s so ready to go, but that\u2019s one of those things that have to, you know, Divine Order has to take place, or something,\u201d Robinson told CBR<\/a>. The actor revealed that while the cast remains busy, something beyond scheduling seems to be holding the project back. \u201cHot Tub Time Machine 2 just kind of happened, you know, called a meeting, and then next thing we were on our way.\u201d<\/p>\n The first Hot Tub Time Machine became a modest hit in 2010, earning around $65 million on a $36 million budget and later building a cult following through home video sales. The success prompted a quick turnaround for the sequel, released in 2015. However, Hot Tub Time Machine 2 fell short both critically and commercially, making reportedly only $12.3 million domestically, which was less than the first film\u2019s opening weekend.<\/p>\n That box office failure likely explains the long pause before any talk of a third film. Still, the creative team behind the franchise hasn\u2019t given up hope. Back in 2022, Robinson told CinemaBlend<\/a> that writer Josh Heald had \u201can idea for part three that is (does \u2018mind blown\u2019 movement) so I would like to see that happen.\u201d In 2024, Heald told Syfy<\/a> that the potential third installment would be \u201ca bigger movie\u201d exploring the concept of the multiverse.<\/p>\n While there\u2019s no official confirmation on Hot Tub Time Machine 3, until then, fans can catch Craig Robinson in Netflix\u2019s animated adventure In Your Dreams, where he voices Baloney Tony.
