Well, everyone except Carol Sturka.<\/p>\n<p class=\"mb-4 text-lg md:leading-8 break-words\">Played by <em>Better Call Saul<\/em>&#8216;s <a rel=\"nofollow\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/ew.com\/person\/rhea-seehorn\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" data-ylk=\"slk:Rhea Seehorn;elm:context_link;itc:0;sec:content-canvas\" class=\"link \">Rhea Seehorn<\/a>, Carol is a successful author of historical romance novels that she deems &#8220;mindless crap.&#8221; Now, the curmudgeon is forced to contend with a society that desperately wants her to be as content and carefree as the rest of them.<\/p>\n<p class=\"mb-4 text-lg md:leading-8 break-words\">Why is Carol immune? Gilligan isn&#8217;t particularly interested in that question just yet. &#8220;[It] never really occurred to me as a question,&#8221; he told EW. &#8220;I just figured there&#8217;s always gotta be a one-in-a-billion person. And it&#8217;s Carol. As to the science of it, I don&#8217;t know. My mind would wander and I got interested in the idea of a world in which everyone was nice,\u201d Gilligan told us. \u201cThere was no way you could insult them. There was no way you could hurt their feelings. But they would do anything and everything for you.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p class=\"mb-4 text-lg md:leading-8 break-words\">He added, &#8220;What interests me about this show and the possibilities for it is that people, I hope, can watch it and say, &#8216;What would the world be like if everybody got along?&#8217; There\u2019s probably a bit of wish fulfillment in the idea of this show.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p class=\"mb-4 text-lg md:leading-8 break-words\">While the premise is inherently comedic, Gilligan said he also mines it for a &#8220;surprising amount of drama.&#8221; Seehorn&#8217;s Carol, he explained, is a &#8220;reluctant hero,&#8221; saying she &#8220;doesn&#8217;t really want to be tasked with saving the world, but she more or less feels like it&#8217;s her duty.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"mb-4 text-lg md:leading-8 break-words\">And while <em>Pluribus<\/em> doesn&#8217;t unfold in the same universe as <a rel=\"nofollow\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/ew.com\/breaking-bad\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" data-ylk=\"slk:Breaking Bad;elm:context_link;itc:0;sec:content-canvas\" class=\"link \"><em>Breaking Bad<\/em><\/a> and <em>Better Call Saul<\/em>, he did tease &#8220;an Easter egg or two&#8221; for fans of those shows.
