From Led Zeppelin to the Rolling Stones to so many others, there&#8217;s no shortage of iconic bands out there that wear their influences on their sleeves, so to speak. Sometimes, though, the line between inspiration and flat-out theft gets crossed.<\/p>\n<p class=\"mb-4 text-lg md:leading-8 break-words\">Such was the case with Hootie &amp; The Blowfish&#8217;s &#8220;Only Wanna Be With You&#8221;&#8230;or at least, that&#8217;s how <strong>Bob Dylan<\/strong> felt about it. Not only does the 1995 hit reference Dylan&#8217;s song &#8220;Tangled Up in Blue,&#8221; it also features several lines from &#8220;Idiot Wind,&#8221; which appeared on Dylan&#8217;s 1975 album Blood on the Tracks.<\/p>\n<p class=\"mb-4 text-lg md:leading-8 break-words\">According to <strong>Darius Rucker<\/strong>, Dylan&#8217;s management was aware of the lyrics and didn&#8217;t object initially&#8230;but things changed after &#8220;Only Wanna Be With You&#8221; became a huge hit.<\/p>\n<p class=\"mb-4 text-lg md:leading-8 break-words\">\u201cThat was a straight tribute to [Bob Dylan],\u201d Rucker told <a rel=\"nofollow\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.rollingstone.com\/music\/music-news\/darius-rucker-on-wagon-wheel-and-the-future-of-hootie-234316\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" data-ylk=\"slk:Rolling Stone;elm:context_link;itc:0;sec:content-canvas\" class=\"link \">Rolling Stone<\/a>. \u201cI wrote it around the time I was listening to\u00a0Blood on the Tracks\u00a0every day. The line, \u2018They say I shot a man named Grey and took his wife to Italy \/ She inherited a million bucks and when she died it came to me \/ I can\u2019t help it if I\u2019m lucky\u2019 was just so vivid. That was a straight tribute to my love of Dylan.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p class=\"mb-4 text-lg md:leading-8 break-words\">\u201cWhen we first did that song, we sent it to the publishing company and everything was fine,\u201d Rucker explained. \u201cWe played it for years and had a really big hit with it. Then, they wanted some money, and they got it. We weren\u2019t trying to rip anybody off.
