A fourth film in \u201cThe Mummy\u201d series is being planned and the two original stars are returning.<\/p>\n

Variety reports<\/a> Brendan Fraser and Rachel Weisz, who starred together in the original film released in 1999 and the sequel in 2001, will reunite for the newest movie.<\/p>\n

According to The Hollywood Reporter<\/a>, Sean Daniel, who was one of the producers of the original movies, will work on the upcoming film. Radio Silence will direct.<\/p>\n

The original movie was a major hit, grossing nearly $423 million worldwide. The film was tongue-in-cheek, going more for thrilling adventure than horror.<\/p>\n

The first sequel, \u201cThe Mummy Returns,\u201d also did well, grossing $443 million.<\/p>\n

The third film, \u201cThe Mummy: Tomb of the Dragon Emperor,\u201d was released in 2008 and starred Fraser but not Weisz. It was not embraced like the previous films but still grossed more than $400 million.<\/p>\n

The new movie would disregard the events in the third film, according to The Hollywood Reporter.<\/p>\n

An updated version of \u201cThe Mummy\u201d in 2017 and starring Tom Cruise did not do well in the U.S. and Canada. Fraser said in 2022 he believed Cruise\u2019s film was too dark, Variety reports.<\/p>\n

\u201cIt is hard to make that movie,\u201d Fraser said. \u201cThe ingredient that we had going for our \u2018Mummy,\u2019 which I didn\u2019t see in the new one, was fun. That was what was lacking in that incarnation. It was too much of a straight-ahead horror movie. \u2018The Mummy\u2019 should be a thrill ride, but not terrifying and scary.\u201d<\/p>\n
