Huge news out of the latest episode of <\/span>Las Culturistas<\/span><\/i>: \u201cEmma Stone and I are producing a Miss Piggy movie, and Cole [Escola]<\/a> is writing it,\u201d Jennifer Lawrence announced on the podcast. Asked if she and her longtime friend Stone would appear alongside the iconic Muppet<\/a>, Lawrence said, \u201cI think so. We have to.\u201d (She joked that it\u2019s \u201cfucked up\u201d and \u201creally dark\u201d that the two Oscar winners haven\u2019t starred together yet.)\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n Coming off of a star-making turn as the writer-director of Broadway\u2019s <\/span>Oh, Mary!<\/span><\/i>, Escola is the perfect person to give Miss Piggy her first lead role. The actor (who is nonbinary) has said they imbued the character of Mary Todd Lincoln with Muppet qualities. <\/span>\u201cThe beauty of Miss Piggy, and what attracts me to her, is that she believes she is an ing\u00e9nue,\u201d Escola told <\/a><\/span>The Daily Beast<\/span><\/i><\/a> in June 2024. \u201cShe\u2019s not actually a diva, or she is, but she believes she\u2019s an ing\u00e9nue. And what she wants desperately is for everybody to see her as an ing\u00e9nue, but cannot help the rageful, selfish side of her. I so relate to that. I think everyone can. Like, \u2018This is a version of me I want everyone to see,\u2019 but meanwhile I am an absolute terror that I think I\u2019m keeping concealed. But I\u2019m actually not.\u201d\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n In fact, when asked in a July 2025 episode of Amy Poehler\u2019s <\/span>Good Hang<\/span><\/i> podcast who they\u2019d like to see play the titular role in an <\/span>Oh, Mary!<\/span><\/i> movie, Escola suggested<\/a>, \u201c<\/span>Miss Piggy as Mary Todd Lincoln, and then everyone else is human.\u201d They quickly added, \u201cActually, cut this, I\u2019m gonna be talking to Disney tomorrow.\u201d That seemed like a joke at the time, but now they\u2019ve got a Miss Piggy movie in development, so the joke is really on us for not taking it seriously.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n While Escola focuses on putting Miss Piggy in the spotlight, Lawrence told Matt Rogers and Bowen Yang on <\/span>Las Cultch<\/span><\/i> that she pursued Mary Todd Lincoln as her Broadway debut. <\/span>\u201cThe only time that I wanted to do theater is when I wanted to do <\/span>Oh, Mary<\/a>!<\/span><\/i>\u201d She explained. \u201cThe schedule just would\u2019ve\u2014they were like, \u2018Okay, well it\u2019s eight shows a week, and like six weeks of rehearsal,\u2019 and I was like, \u2018Okay, do you guys have daycare there, or\u2026?\u2019 It just wouldn\u2019t have worked.\u201d Lawrence said she doesn\u2019t think she\u2019d be good on stage, but felt like she could\u2019ve done the comedic play \u201cbecause the whole thing is a joke that she\u2019s in on and so I thought that I could be like, big and in on the joke.\u201d Lawrence admitted she doesn\u2019t think she\u2019s very good at comedy at all (despite positive reviews of her performance in <\/span>No Hard Feelings<\/span><\/i><\/a>), but hopefully she\u2019ll soon get a crash course from her co-star Miss Piggy.<\/span><\/p>\n
