Prince William<\/strong><\/a>\u2019s helicopter use has come up a few times in the royal family\u2019s lore.<\/p>\n While the Prince of Wales\u2019 safety is paramount, royal biographer Robert Jobson <\/strong>is claiming that William\u2019s helicopter debacle might just be related to Prince Harry<\/strong><\/a> and Meghan Markle<\/strong>.<\/p>\n The Daily Mail<\/em><\/a> published an excerpt from Jobson\u2019s upcoming book, The Windsor Legacy<\/em>, on Tuesday, November 4. Jobson revisits the issues both King Charles III<\/strong> and Queen Elizabeth II<\/strong> had with William\u2019s flying habit.<\/p>\n \u201cHad there been a fatal accident, Harry would have immediately become heir to the throne,\u201d the excerpt reads. \u201cNo one can prevent William from flying with his family if he wants to, but Charles wanted to drive his point home.\u201d<\/p>\n William and his three children with wife Princess Kate Middleton<\/strong> are next in line for the throne behind Charles, 76. However, if something were to happen to William and his kids, the line of succession<\/a> states that Harry would become king.<\/p>\n Prince William Through the Years: His Royal Life, Fatherhood and More<\/a><\/p>\n Following Charles\u2019 February 2024 cancer diagnosis, he reportedly \u201crevisited the issue\u201d and had one of his senior aides \u201cobtain William\u2019s written acknowledgement of the risks\u201d that came with the helicopter. The Prince of Wales \u201crefused,\u201d according to the book.<\/p>\n Us Weekly<\/em> has reached out to Kensington Palace for comment.<\/p>\n Jobson previously wrote about the helicopter issue in his 2024 book Catherine, the Princess of Wales<\/em><\/a>, reiterating that Charles raised concerns with William \u201cpiloting his helicopter to fly his entire family around.\u201d He also wrote that the request William \u201ccurb his helicopter use\u201d came after Charles\u2019 diagnosis.<\/p>\n Jobson further claimed that the royal family\u2019s issues with William flying originated from the late Elizabeth.<\/a><\/p>\n \u201cWilliam had previously upset the late Queen Elizabeth when he defied her by piloting his entire family the 115 miles from Kensington Palace to Anmer Hall in Norfolk,\u201d Jobson wrote, noting that the queen\u2019s fear came from a 1967 crash that killed her flight captain. \u201c[Elizabeth] later cautioned William, particularly about flying with his heir Prince George, telling her grandson that he should always be aware of the line of succession.\u201d<\/p>\n The queen thought it was \u201can unnecessary risk,\u201d the book claimed, and she initially \u201cprivately voiced her concern.\u201d<\/p>\n
