The co-creator explained that the decision was made early in development. This allowed The Duffer Brothers to design the final season’s structure and pacing around the rollout instead of adjusting mid-production as they had in the past.

Ross Duffer on why Stranger Things Season 5 has been split into three volumes

Ross Duffer told SFX Magazine that the team intentionally structured the multi-volume rollout to shape the story’s pacing. He explained that this approach differed from the unplanned split of Season 4 that occurred during the pandemic.

He said, “In Season Four, we weren’t aware that it was going to get split in two… But this time, we knew we were going to divide it into two, so it really is in two halves. Volume One really exists as its own mega-movie. It has its own climax.” (via GamesRadar+)

Duffer also noted that the fourth episode was the “most challenging episode we’ve ever made,” adding that it was more technically demanding than the series finale itself. “Episode four was the most challenging episode we’ve ever made, and that includes the finale – though on an emotional level, the finale was the hardest,” he said, mentioning that he cried multiple times during filming despite not being “someone who cries very often outside of watching Pixar movies.”

Volume One premieres November 26, followed by Volume Two on Christmas Day and the finale on December 31. Each batch will debut at 8 p.m. ET rather than Netflix’s usual midnight release. Gaten Matarazzo, who plays Dustin, supported the release approach, saying, “I think that’ll bring a sense of engagement to the show over time that we don’t really see a whole lot of in the streaming era.”

The two-hour series finale will also screen in select cinemas on Dec. 31, marking the first theatrical event for the franchise.

‘ The preceding article may include information circulated by third parties ’

‘ Some details of this article were extracted from the following source www.yahoo.com ’

Ross Duffer addressed the reasoning behind Stranger Things Season 5’s three-volume release plan.
