Prince William walked the green carpet with Kylie Minogue but it
\nwas a cake that almost stole the show.<\/p>\n
As the Prince of Wales arrived at the Earthshot Prize ceremony
\nin Rio de Janeiro, some of the big name stars taking part in the
\nawards show were waiting to greet him.<\/p>\n
And among them was Shawn Mendes who made a surprise
\nannouncement. He revealed that his mum was with him on the trip and
\nthat Prince William had sent her a cake as prize day was also her
\nbirthday.<\/p>\n

Rebecca English of the Daily Mail reported that as the future
\nking met the Canadian singer at the awards, Shawn Mendes said his
\nmum was \u201dstill shaking\u201d after receiving the royal birthday
\ntreat.<\/p>\n
Prince William, who went for his usual velvet tux look for the
\nEarthshot Prize ceremony, posed for photos alongside Mendes and
\nKylie as well as Brazilian stars, Seu Jorge and Anitta.<\/p>\n
They were among the big names taking part in the glittering
\nevent which is now in its fifth year.<\/p>\n
Ahead of handing out the five prizes, each worth \u00a31 million for
\nan environmental project, Prince William spoke of the work all the
\nfinalists had done, calling them all a \u201dshining example\u201d.<\/p>\n
