Taylor Swift just became the unexpected soundtrack of a Trump-era White House TikTok, and the internet is confused.<\/p>\n
A TikTok video<\/a> shared to its official account features a slideshow of images set to the chorus of the pop star’s new single, “The Fate of Ophelia,” a puzzling move given President Donald Trump’s<\/a>\u00a0longstanding dislike for the record-breaking singer.<\/p>\n In the clip, when Swift starts the chorus singing, “Keep it one hundred on the land, the sea, the sky,” images of U.S. Army troops, a missile blasting off of a ship and a fighter jet are shown. A flag, Trump and Vice President J.D. Vance<\/a> and their wives, Melania and Usha, flash across the screen as she sings “Pledge allegiance to your hands, your team, your vibes.”<\/p>\n At one point, Trump’s mug shot takes the spotlight as Swift sings the line, “Don’t care where the hell you’ve been.” The image was taken at Atlanta’s Fulton County Jail in 2023, after Trump was charged with tampering with Georgia’s election results.<\/p>\n The video, which has received more than 5 million views and 600,000 likes since it was posted on Monday, Nov. 3, ends with a photo of Trump scooping fries at McDonald’s.<\/p>\n “Someone get Tree on the phone ASAP,” TikTok user Sarah Cracken commented, referring to Swift’s longtime publicist Tree Paine.<\/p>\n Similarly, Sam Becker wrote, “Ooooooo Tay Tay gonna be real mad!”<\/p>\n “OUR VIBES,” accompanied by an emoji of the American flag, serves as the caption of the video.<\/p>\n Since the “Bad Blood” singer endorsed Oakland native Kamala Harris’<\/a>\u00a0presidential campaign last year, Trump has made the pop superstar a frequent target of his criticism, posting “I HATE TAYLOR SWIFT”<\/a> to his Truth Social platform and mocking her<\/a> for reportedly getting booed at the Super Bowl earlier this year.<\/p>\n By contrast, Swift has publicly mentioned Trump on just a few occasions, most recently calling out his recirculation of artificial intelligence-generated images of her endorsing his presidential campaign last year.<\/p>\n The White House has faced backlash over the past few months for its use of popular songs and joining viral internet trends in its social media posts, from the “Jet2 Holiday” commercial meme to the “Beez in the Trap” and “What’s Up?” remix<\/a>.<\/p>\n Jess Glynne, whose song “Hold My Hand” is featured in the “Jet2 Holiday” audio, said on Instagram that she feels “sick” that the White House used her song in a video showing handcuffed people being escorted by Immigration and Customs Enforcement.<\/p>\n Zoe Lister, who does the voiceover, told the BBC that she would “never condone” her voice being used to promote “Trump and his abhorrent policies.”<\/p>\n This article originally published at Taylor Swift’s music just showed up in a Trump White House TikTok.
