Few directors have been able to drop into an established franchise \u2013 especially one as mature as the \u201cPredator\u201d franchise<\/a> \u2013 revive it and truly make it their own.<\/p>\n

Dan Trachtenberg <\/a> (“10 Cloverfield”) has not only refreshed it, but he\u2019s imbued it with intelligence after seriously dubious cash-grab entries such as \u201cPredator 2\u201d and the two \u201cAlien vs. Predator\u201d films.<\/p>\n

After \u201cPrey,\u201d a compelling film sacrificed to the tail end of the pandemic, last June\u2019s entry, the animated anthology \u201cPredator: Killer of Killers\u201d<\/a> and now \u201cPredator: Badlands,\u201d<\/a> he\u2019s taken what had been a series with those serious \u201cAlien\u201d missteps and tied the two franchises together in a logical manner, all while blending an emotionally resonant story with some superb action sequences.<\/p>\n

The story of Dek (Dimitrius Schuster-Kolamatangi), a Yaujta race warrior, is that of having grown up the runt of his family\u2019s litter and his father wanting to sacrifice him at the hand of his brother Kwei (Michael Homick).<\/p>\n
