\u201cLost\u201d alum<\/a> proudly called \u201cThe Lord of the Rings\u201d movies \u201cthe only project that I\u2019ve done in my entire career that gets stronger and stronger the further that I get away from it.\u201d<\/p>\n\u201cPeter Jackson\u2019s \u2018Lord of the Rings\u2019 trilogy went from being a great film that people seem to like, to a relatively quick kind of modern classic, to a classic, to an out and out stonewall classic piece of benchmark cinema,\u201d Monaghan explained. \u201cAnd being involved in something like that kind of keeps you in this very exalted, very fortunate position of knowing that you\u2019re lucky enough to be part of the history of that medium. To be involved in something like that is just an actor\u2019s dream come true.\u201d<\/p>\n
Monaghan, who has been acting since the late \u201990s, acknowledged that he\u2019s been \u201cvery lucky\u201d and \u201cvery fortunate\u201d in how his career has panned out.<\/p>\n
\u201cThe money didn\u2019t necessarily dictate the decision. I was lucky enough to start working when I was 18 and did a four-year job, which put me in a position where I could \u2014 at the very least \u2014 wait a little bit to pick the next job,\u201d he explained. \u201cSo from that age onwards, it\u2019s always been making a decision outside of money. And to do that as an actor, at least for me, it\u2019s about the material. \u201cI hadn\u2019t done a Western before, and it felt like something that I was potentially doing as a little tribute to my dad,\u201d said Monaghan. \u201cAnd the character that I played just seemed to be a little bit of a livewire. He\u2019s clearly struggling with drinking or an overexcess of drinking alcohol. And that makes him someone that\u2019s a little hard to predict. And he\u2019s a bit of a grifter and a bit of a crook at the same time.\u201d<\/p>\n
\u201cSo I am always looking for some opportunity to play a new character,\u201d Monaghan added. \u201cAnd he did seem like an original new character to me.\u201c<\/em><\/p>\n\u201cLong Shadows\u201d will be released in theaters Friday.<\/p>\n<\/p><\/div>\n
