World-renowned musical murine deadmau5<\/a> is leveling up.<\/p>\n The Canadian electronic artist, whose real name is Joel Zimmerman, announced a new album alongside his latest single,\u00a0\u201cAmeonna,\u201d<\/a>\u00a0on October 24 via his own mau5trap label.<\/span> Scheduled for consumption sometime in 2026, the yet-to-be-named record is the first all-original deadmau5 release in a decade, since W:\/2016Album\/<\/em><\/a>.<\/p>\n \u201cIt was like, \u2018Let\u2019s just put it out.\u2019 That\u2019s just to sate everybody for now,\u201d he says of the track, adding that it feels like it\u2019s time for fresh deadmau5 material.<\/p>\n While he\u2019s been in and out of the lab, Zimmerman\u2019s main focus right now is on his upcoming shows \u2014 particularly the annual Day of the Deadmau5 weekend at Red Rocks<\/a> on Friday, November 7, and Saturday, November 8.<\/p>\n \n\t\t\t\t\t\t\tWe\u2019re aiming to raise $50,000 by December 31, so we can continue covering what matters most to this community. My head\u2019s been there. Once the Red Rocks shows are done, I\u2019ll get back in the studio and crank out five or six more.\u201d<\/p>\n The 44-year-old producer takes a drag from a cigarette. Sounding more like a tech CEO, he explains how he\u2019s been working on much more than music at the moment, including a brand-new live production and behind-the-scenes elements that he\u2019ll debut during the two five-hour Morrison sets.<\/p>\n \u201cI\u2019ve been wracking my brain around new ways of performing with new user-end tech,\u201d Zimmerman shares. \u201cWe got some pretty cool production elements that I don\u2019t think has been done before that we\u2019re going to try out. It\u2019s kind of experiment. But all the industry standards of DJ gear is just not really doing it for me.\u201d<\/p>\n In order to prepare, he\u2019s even been practicing in a reefer truck with the assistance of a \u201ctechnology company that shall not be named.\u201d<\/p>\n \u201cThey rented refrigerated trucks to test this shit in cold conditions because Red Rocks in November is so hit or miss. We went through every variable with this thing,\u201d he adds. \u201cBasically, this company got more resources than Christ to have fun with what we\u2019re doing.\u201d<\/p>\n He\u2019s also creating his own code in order to maximize usability and dial in exactly what he wants whenever he hits the stage to perform his career-spanning catalog of deadmau5, testpilot<\/a> and drum-and-bass.<\/p>\n \u201cA lot of people who make software don\u2019t make APIs [application programming interfaces] because they don\u2019t want people playing with their software and having fun. The killjoys who do that make life hard to get the application to do what you want,\u201d Zimmerman says. \u201cNow I\u2019m in the arena of why don\u2019t I write an application that\u2019s mine with an open API that I can use?<\/p>\n \u201cI\u2019ve been bashing my head around writing software and making things a little better for me,\u201d he continues. \u201cIt makes my music a little more accessible for me to be able do things you just can\u2019t really do on two CD players. It\u2019s such a pain.\u201d<\/p>\n Zimmerman\u2019s keeping it close to the mau5head right now, but he knows it\u2019ll pay off and has dropped some teasers recently, including a short clip<\/a> of mouse-headed mechanoid-looking character that Isaac Asimov could have come up with.<\/p>\n \u201cWe\u2019ll see,\u201d he smirks.<\/p>\n The pre-production aside, Zimmerman knows he can\u2019t manically plan every detail, nor is he trying to.<\/p>\n I\u2019m going in still having no idea what I\u2019m going to play, which is the fun of making this software,\u201d he says. \u201cThat\u2019s what I want it to serve. I want to go in and I want to jam. I don\u2019t want a pre-recorded thing.\u201d<\/p>\n As part of the Day of the deadmau5 celebration, virtual EDM artist Deathpixie<\/a> will also be performing. Plus, there\u2019s a mau5hop pop-up at 95 South Cherokee St. from 5 a.m. to 7 p.m. each day featuring one-of-a-kind designs and merch.<\/p>\n Zimmerman is most excited for his latest collab with Atari \u2014 a Meowingtons\u2019 Revenge video game. Having his own 7800 playable cartridge is \u201ca childhood dream come true for me,\u201d he says.<\/p>\n \u201cIt\u2019s pretty fucking cool,\u201d he goes on, showing off his retro gaming collection, which includes an original Atari and Super Nintendo consoles and games.<\/p>\n With so much going on, he hasn\u2019t had a chance to plug in and play Meowingtons\u2019 Revenge yet, but he\u2019ll be at the pop-up, noon to 3 p.m., to see it and hang out this weekend.
