\u201cAll\u2019s Fair,\u201d the latest series from television mogul Ryan Murphy, is getting positively panned by critics. <\/p>\n
With a 6 percent score on Rotten Tomatoes<\/a>, \u201cAll\u2019s Fair\u201d has been called \u201cfascinatingly, existentially terrible\u201d (The Guardian<\/a>), \u201cunforgivably dull\u201d (The Hollywood Reporter<\/a>), and even \u201cthe worst TV show of the year\u201d (USA TODAY<\/a>). <\/p>\n After all the bad press, the show\u2019s director, Anthony Hemingway, encouraged audiences not to \u201ccome at [\u2018All\u2019s Fair\u2019] with such a critical or literal frame of mind.\u201d <\/p>\n During an interview with The Hollywood Reporter<\/a> published on Wednesday, Nov. 5, Hemingway said that series creator Murphy wanted \u201cAll\u2019s Fair\u201d to be a form of escapism.<\/p>\n \u201cSomething that was important to Ryan was fulfilling fantasies. [He was] wanting people to see what they may not be able to obtain, but can escape into and live out through an entertainment space,\u201d Hemingway explained. \u201c[He wanted to] give some wish fulfillment and light to this world.\u201d<\/p>\n Hemingway, whose previous directing credits include \u201cTrue Blood\u201d and \u201cShameless,\u201d<\/a> also teased that \u201cAll\u2019s Fair\u201d will \u201cevolve over time\u201d and \u201cget more human.\u201d The first three episodes hit Hulu on Wednesday, but the remaining episodes will drop weekly. <\/p>\n \u201cHopefully opinions will change. But if they don\u2019t, then they don\u2019t. What we are all doing excites us, and we stand by it,\u201d Hemingway said. \u201cI think the show holds a mirror up to each person who watches it. It\u2019s just about: Can you connect to it or relate to it, and see yourself? The all-star cast includes Kim Kardashian (Allura Grant), Naomi Watts (Liberty Ronson), Niecy Nash-Betts (Emerald Greene), Teyana Taylor (Milan), Sarah Paulson (Carrington Lane), and Glenn Close (Dina Standish).<\/p>\n Kardashian, known more as a reality TV star than an actress, has unsurprisingly gotten her fair share of negative criticism for \u201cAll\u2019s Fair.\u201d The Hollywood Reporter\u2019s Angie Han described her as \u201cstiff and affectless without a single authentic note,\u201d while USA Today said Kardashian\u2019s \u201ccomplete lack of acting skill\u201d might be to blame for the rest of the cast\u2019s \u201cdetached\u201d performances.<\/p>\n Hemingway defended the \u201cKardashians\u201d star during his interview with the Hollywood Reporter, calling her an \u201cexceptional\u201d person.<\/p>\n \u201cI love Kim Kardashian, I\u2019m just going to say that,\u201d he said. \u201cShe wasn\u2019t as experienced of an actor as everyone else. She came in knowing that, but she came in so open and wanting to deliver a great job, and that\u2019s [the person] I met daily.\u201d<\/p>\n Hemingway added that Kardashian consistently showed up to set with all her lines memorized, ready to work.<\/p>\n \u201cIt was phenomenal to observe and watch.
