\n Rosal\u00eda talks to God. Rosal\u00eda is calling upon God to release her and go help that man instead. The Spanish pop star released her fourth studio album, Lux<\/em>, early on November 6, and all that it has in common with her previous work is that it\u2019s another totally new sound for her. The popera appears to lament her 2023 breakup with reggaeton singer Rauw Alejandro<\/a>, which happened shortly after they joint-released Rosal\u00eda\u2019s last project, RR<\/em>. Lux<\/em> eulogizes the relationship in 13 languages: the ones that\u00a0she has sung in before \u2014\u00a0Spanish, Catalan, Portuguese<\/a>, and English \u2014 as well as Japanese, Latin, Italian, German, Ukrainian, Arabic, Sicilian, French, Mandarin, and Hebrew. \u201cI love traveling, I love learning from other humans,\u201d Rosal\u00eda told the New York Times<\/em><\/a>. \u201cWhy would I not try to learn another language and try to sing in another language and expand the way I can be a singer or a musician or an artist? The world is so connected.\u201d<\/p>\n On the 15-track album, Rosal\u00eda uses strings, chanting, and religious iconography even while singing about cars, luxury, and jet-setting. \u201cSexo, Violencia y Llantas,\u201d which translates to \u201cSex, Violence, and Tires,\u201d leads the album in a symphony (literally the London Symphony Orchestra) during which Rosal\u00eda yearns for transcendence: \u201cFirst, I\u2019ll love the world \/ then I\u2019ll love God.\u201d The world unfortunately includes the man she eviscerates on \u201cLa Perla,\u201d singing in Spanish, \u201cHe can\u2019t be trusted \/ He\u2019s a pearl \/ A nasty piece of work.\u201d On \u201cSauvignon Blanc,\u201d she\u2019s promising to give up earthly possessions like \u201cpearls or caviar\u201d if she can have love. By the time Lux <\/em>ends, Rosal\u00eda is on her literal last rites. The album closer, \u201cMagnolias,\u201d imagines her own death: \u201cOver my casket \/ KTMs burning rubber \/ Tears and tires \/ Melting on the wood.\u201d<\/p>\n
