If the siblings can withstand a snarky stuffed giraffe, zombie breakfast foods, and the queen of nightmares, the Sandman will grant them their ultimate dream come true: the perfect family.<\/p>\n<p class=\"mb-4 text-lg md:leading-8 break-words\"><em>In Your Dreams <\/em>was a heartfelt movie that nostalgia-baited me hard. Growing up in the suburbs, albeit right outside Toronto, Canada, it still felt like a similar experience to those growing up in the Midwest in the United States. Those from more rural towns across Canada will wholeheartedly relate to this film\u2019s vibes. In one of the dream sequences, it was like watching a G-rated scene out of <a rel=\"nofollow\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.cgmagonline.com\/review\/movie\/sausage-party-movie-review\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" data-ylk=\"slk:Sausage Party;elm:context_link;itc:0;sec:content-canvas\" class=\"link \"><em>Sausage Party<\/em><\/a><em>. <\/em>It was more along the lines of <em>The Nightmare Before Christmas <\/em>shenanigans with living inanimate objects<em>.\u00a0<\/em><\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"mb-4 border-l-2 pl-5 italic text-tertiary\">\n<div class=\"\">\n<p class=\"mb-4 text-lg md:leading-8 break-words\">\u201cThe strength of this art style was the way the animation department pushed its limits.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p class=\"mb-4 text-lg md:leading-8 break-words\">I did not expect to hear a rendition of The Pussycat Dolls\u2019 Don\u2019t Cha at a pizzeria that resembled the one from <a rel=\"nofollow\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.cgmagonline.com\/articles\/features\/best-five-nights-at-freddys-fan-games\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" data-ylk=\"slk:Five Nights at Freddy\u2019s;elm:context_link;itc:0;sec:content-canvas\" class=\"link \"><em>Five Nights at Freddy\u2019s<\/em><\/a><em>. <\/em>The music choices throughout <em>In Your Dreams <\/em>were perfect, from Outkast to Eurythmics. Long-time Disney composer John Debney scored this film without a distinct theme. This was disappointing, coming from someone who made iconic scores for <em>Hocus Pocus <\/em>and the <a rel=\"nofollow\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Spy_Kids\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" data-ylk=\"slk:Spy Kids;elm:context_link;itc:0;sec:content-canvas\" class=\"link \"><em>Spy Kids<\/em><\/a> films.<\/p>\n<p class=\"mb-4 text-lg md:leading-8 break-words\">Funnily enough, Woo and Erik Benson\u2019s writing took me back to when I enjoyed sibling adventure movies like <em>Zathura<\/em>, the 1995 <em>Jumanji<\/em>, and the <em>Spy Kids<\/em> films. The way Stevie and Elliot were transported to another world felt like a true modern children\u2019s classic adventure. The locations the kids visit throughout the movie, such as Polly\u2019s Pizzeria, reminded me of birthday parties at Chuck E. Simu Liu and Cristin Milioti had good chemistry through their characters, especially when the two were working through their family issues. The kids also performed well. Craig Robinson\u2019s portrayal of Baloney Tony was a roller-coaster ride of emotions. His performance was similar to Richard Fine\u2019s Bing Bong from <em><a rel=\"nofollow\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.cgmagonline.com\/review\/movie\/inside-out-movie-review\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" data-ylk=\"slk:Inside Out;elm:context_link;itc:0;sec:content-canvas\" class=\"link \">Inside Out<\/a><\/em>, though it had a little less impact than expected from a spiritual guide for the kids.<\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"mb-4 border-l-2 pl-5 italic text-tertiary\">\n<div class=\"\">\n<p class=\"mb-4 text-lg md:leading-8 break-words\">\u201cIn Your Dreams\u2019 greatest strength was in its relatability.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p class=\"mb-4 text-lg md:leading-8 break-words\"><em>In Your Dreams<\/em>\u2019 greatest strength was in its relatability. Personally, I liked the <a rel=\"nofollow\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.cgmagonline.com\/news\/sailor-moon-celebration-continues-with\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" data-ylk=\"slk:Sailor Moon;elm:context_link;itc:0;sec:content-canvas\" class=\"link \"><em>Sailor Moon<\/em><\/a> reference with the in-world comic Dynamite Fists. Everyone has good dreams and bad dreams, and the animation pushed the ridiculousness of many dreams we may have all had. The mature themes around parents in a strained marriage will resonate with many couples today.<\/p>\n<p class=\"mb-4 text-lg md:leading-8 break-words\">The kids navigated these themes realistically and were not oblivious to their seriousness. As adults, we can understand why Stevie thinks the way she does, but it was also about her coming to grips with accepting change\u2014for herself and for others. <em>In Your Dreams<\/em> nailed the sibling dynamic between the older and younger child. Netflix was the perfect format for this 90-minute film because it could have been devoured at the box office against giant movies such as <em>Wicked: For Good <\/em>and <em><a rel=\"nofollow\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.yahoo.com\/entertainment\/articles\/zootopia-2-trailer-sees-nick-152103820.html\" data-ylk=\"slk:Zootopia 2;elm:context_link;itc:0;sec:content-canvas;outcm:mb_qualified_link;_E:mb_qualified_link;ct:story;\" class=\"link  yahoo-link\">Zootopia 2<\/a><\/em>.
