Given the Robertson family\u2019s<\/a> love for the outdoors and rural life, one would expect country music to be their genre of choice. But that wasn\u2019t the case for the late Duck Dynasty<\/em><\/a> patriarch, Phil Robertson<\/a>.<\/p>\n In the latest episode of the Robertsons\u2019 Unashamed<\/em><\/a> podcast, Phil\u2019s son Jase Robertson<\/a> revealed that his dad not only didn\u2019t like country music, but he wouldn\u2019t allow it to be played in the house. He even made Jase turn off a classic Hank Williams Jr.<\/a> song.<\/p>\n Speaking with country singer Larry Fleet on the podcast, Jase admitted that his dad had very specific rules, such as \u201cdon\u2019t shave\u201d and \u201cdon\u2019t mow the lawn.\u201d And one of those rules included not listening to country music.<\/p>\n \u201cIt wasn\u2019t like a rule. It was just like, \u2018That\u2019s just stupid,’\u201d Jase explained, confessing that he hadn\u2019t heard of Fleet because country music is so outside of his wheelhouse due to his dad\u2019s distaste for the genre.<\/p>\n \u201cIt was frowned upon,\u201d Jase\u2019s brother Al Robertson<\/a> added. \u201cHe didn\u2019t like country music. He was like a classic rock guy.\u201d He mu h preferred listening to there likes of Creedence Clearwater Revival and The Eagles.<\/p>\n Despite Phil not liking country music, Jase said he tried to sway his dad over. \u201cWhen I heard Hank Williams Jr. \u2018A Country Boy Can Survive,\u2019 I thought, \u2018Well, my dad\u2019s gotta love this,’\u201d he recalled.<\/p>\n \u201c[That song] was an anthem for our lives. It was what we lived,\u201d Al noted.<\/p>\n \u201cI walked in there nervously because my dad is just so intimidating, and I said, \u2018I want you to hear this song,’\u201d Jase remembered. \u201cWhat I didn\u2019t factor in is the first time a four-letter word came out in the song. I just never thought about it, because I thought, well, those words are in the Bible \u2014 \u2018hell\u2019 and \u2018damn,\u2019 you know.\u201d<\/p>\n \u201cMy dad said, \u2018Turn that off!’\u201d Jase said, laughing about the moment. While he revealed Phil enjoyed certain lyrics in the song, it was the word \u201cdamn\u201d that put him off.<\/p>\n \u201cWe were that close. We had him,\u201d he continued. \u201cWell, he liked it until he said that. Made him uncomfortable, you know. I don\u2019t know why, because I\u2019d heard my dad say way worse.\u201d<\/p>\n Phil, the owner of the hunting and outdoor recreation company Duck Commander, who gained widespread recognition on Duck Dynasty<\/em>, died back in May<\/a> after a battle with Alzheimer\u2019s disease. He was 79 years old.<\/p>\n
