{"id":2141258,"date":"2025-11-07T16:32:20","date_gmt":"2025-11-07T16:32:20","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/celebrity.land\/en\/?p=2141258"},"modified":"2025-11-07T16:32:20","modified_gmt":"2025-11-07T16:32:20","slug":"2026-grammy-nominations-kendrick-lamar-leads-with-nine-nods","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/celebrity.land\/en\/2026-grammy-nominations-kendrick-lamar-leads-with-nine-nods\/","title":{"rendered":"2026 Grammy nominations: Kendrick Lamar leads with nine nods"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><\/p>\n<div data-element=\"story-body\" data-subscriber-content=\"\">\n<p>Kendrick Lamar and Lady Gaga will face off for album of the year at the 68th Grammy Awards, a first-time showdown between two megastars of modern music who\u2019ve separately been nominated four previous times without winning the Recording Academy\u2019s most prestigious prize.<\/p>\n<p>As announced Friday morning by the academy, Lamar leads nominees for next year\u2019s ceremony with nine nods in all, followed by Gaga and the producers Cirkut and <a rel=\"nofollow\" target=\"_blank\" class=\"link\" href=\"https:\/\/www.latimes.com\/entertainment-arts\/music\/story\/2024-10-13\/jack-antonoff-taylor-swift-sabrina-carpenter-bleachers-interview\">Jack Antonoff<\/a>, each of whom has seven nominations, and Bad Bunny, <a rel=\"nofollow\" target=\"_blank\" class=\"link\" href=\"https:\/\/www.latimes.com\/entertainment-arts\/music\/story\/2025-08-30\/sabrina-carpenter-mans-best-friend-review\">Sabrina Carpenter<\/a> and Leon Thomas, each of whom has six. Other top nominees include the rappers Doechii, <a rel=\"nofollow\" target=\"_blank\" class=\"link\" href=\"https:\/\/www.latimes.com\/entertainment-arts\/music\/story\/2025-08-20\/clipse-new-frontier-in-hip-hop-longevity-pusha-t-malice-novo\">Clipse<\/a> and Tyler, the Creator as well as the producers Sounwave and Andrew Watt, the rock band <a rel=\"nofollow\" target=\"_blank\" class=\"link\" href=\"https:\/\/www.latimes.com\/entertainment-arts\/music\/story\/2025-06-06\/turnstile-brendan-yates-never-enough-interview\">Turnstile<\/a> and the recording engineer Serban Ghenea.<\/p>\n<p>The 68th Grammys will take place Feb. 1 at Crypto.com Arena in downtown Angeles.<\/p>\n<p>For Lamar, the album of the year nod \u2014 for his \u201cGNX,\u201d which came out with about half an hour\u2019s notice last November \u2014 follows a triumphant showing at the most recent Grammys ceremony, where the Compton-born rapper won record of the year and song of the year with \u201cNot Like Us,\u201d the festive Drake diss he went on to perform at the Super Bowl halftime show. His album nomination makes him the first solo artist in Grammys history to compete for that prize with five consecutive studio albums.<\/p>\n<p>Lamar is nominated for the record and song prizes again with \u201cLuther,\u201d his and SZA\u2019s tender duet that samples Luther Vandross and Cheryl Lynn\u2019s \u201cIf This World Were Mine.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Gaga\u2019s album of the year nod recognizes \u201c<a rel=\"nofollow\" target=\"_blank\" class=\"link\" href=\"https:\/\/www.latimes.com\/entertainment-arts\/music\/story\/2025-03-10\/lady-gaga-mayhem-killah-review\">Mayhem<\/a>,\u201d a widely praised return to her signature dance-pop sound that led to an even more widely praised tour that launched at April\u2019s <a rel=\"nofollow\" target=\"_blank\" class=\"link\" href=\"https:\/\/www.latimes.com\/entertainment-arts\/music\/story\/2025-04-12\/coachella-2025-lady-gaga-review\">Coachella festival.<\/a> The singer will also go head to head with Lamar for record and song with her single \u201cAbracadabra\u201d; her nominations in those categories, neither of which she\u2019s ever won, are her fourth and fifth, respectively.<\/p>\n<p>Also nominated for album of the year, which can be understood as the Grammys\u2019 equivalent of best picture: Carpenter\u2019s \u201cMan\u2019s Best Friend,\u201d Bad Bunny\u2019s \u201cDeb\u00ed Tirar M\u00e1s Fotos,\u201d Clipse\u2019s \u201cLet God Sort Em Out,\u201d Thomas\u2019 \u201cMutt,\u201d Tyler\u2019s \u201cChromakopia\u201d and Justin Bieber\u2019s \u201cSwag.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>This is the first time three rap LPs have been nominated for album of the year at the same ceremony \u2014 an achievement that comes just days after Billboard reported that no rap songs were in the top 40 of its Hot 100 singles chart for the first time since 1990.<\/p>\n<p>More firsts: Ros\u00e9\u2019s \u201cApt.,\u201d which the Blackpink member wrote and recorded with Bruno Mars, is up for record and song of the year, while \u201cGolden,\u201d from the smash Netflix film \u201c<a rel=\"nofollow\" target=\"_blank\" class=\"link\" href=\"https:\/\/www.latimes.com\/entertainment-arts\/awards\/story\/2025-10-30\/envelope-digital-cover-huntrix-k-pop-demon-hunters\">KPop Demon Hunters<\/a>,\u201d is nominated for song of the year; these are the first major-category Grammy nods for artists from the world of K-pop.<\/p>\n<p>The remaining nominees for record of the year are Bad Bunny\u2019s \u201cDtMF,\u201d Carpenter\u2019s \u201cManchild,\u201d Eilish\u2019s \u201cWildflower,\u201d Chappell Roan\u2019s \u201cThe Subway\u201d and Doechii\u2019s \u201cAnxiety,\u201d the last of which prominently samples a previous record of the year winner in 2011\u2019s \u201cSomebody That I Used to Know\u201d by Gotye and Kimbra.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cAnxiety,\u201d \u201cDtMF\u201d \u201cManchild\u201d and \u201cWildflower\u201d are also nominated for song of the year. (The record prize goes to performers and producers, while the song prize recognizes songwriters.) Eilish\u2019s nod for \u201cWildflower,\u201d which the 23-year-old wrote with her brother, Finneas O\u2019Connell, brings her career nominations in the song category to six \u2014 and evens her up with <a rel=\"nofollow\" target=\"_blank\" class=\"link\" href=\"https:\/\/www.latimes.com\/entertainment-arts\/music\/story\/2025-09-27\/paul-mccartney-santa-barbara-bowl-review\">Paul McCartney<\/a> and Lionel Richie.<\/p>\n<p>The strong showing for hip-hop, K-pop and Latin pop \u2014 \u201cDeb\u00ed Tirar M\u00e1s Fotos\u201d is just the second Spanish-language LP to be nominated for album of the year (after Bad Bunny\u2019s \u201cUn Verano Sin Ti\u201d in 2023) \u2014 can be seen as a result of the academy\u2019s efforts to <a rel=\"nofollow\" target=\"_blank\" class=\"link\" href=\"https:\/\/www.latimes.com\/entertainment-arts\/music\/story\/2024-10-03\/grammys-recording-academy-harvey-mason-jr-new-members\">diversify its membership<\/a> along age, race and gender lines. This month the group said it had added 3,800 new members, half of whom are under 40 and 58% of whom are people of color; 35% of the new members identify as women, the academy said.<\/p>\n<p>Yet the major categories also had more room thanks to the absence of reliable Grammy faves such as Taylor Swift, Beyonc\u00e9 and Adele, none of whom released recordings eligible for February\u2019s ceremony. The window ran from Aug. 31, 2024 to Aug. 30, 2025 \u2014 just a few weeks before Swift dropped her blockbuster \u201c<a rel=\"nofollow\" target=\"_blank\" class=\"link\" href=\"https:\/\/www.latimes.com\/entertainment-arts\/music\/story\/2025-10-02\/taylor-swift-the-life-of-a-showgirl-review\">The Life of a Showgirl<\/a>,\u201d which will no doubt be showered with nods at the 69th Grammys.<\/p>\n<p>The academy said more than 23,000 recordings were submitted for consideration this year across 95 categories, including one for audio book in which a collection of meditations by the Dalai Lama is up against Fab Morvan\u2019s account of his days in Milli Vanilli. Nominations were determined by approximately 15,000 industry professionals, who will go on to decide the winners in a second voting round scheduled to start Dec. 12.<\/p>\n<p>Among the nominees for best new artist, only Thomas scored a nod in another of the show\u2019s major categories \u2014 something of a rarity at the Grammys, where young stars such as Carpenter, Roan, Eilish, Lizzo and Olivia Rodrigo have been nominated for all four big prizes in recent years. The other acts up for best new artist are Olivia Dean, Katseye, the Mar\u00edas, Addison Rae, <a rel=\"nofollow\" target=\"_blank\" class=\"link\" href=\"https:\/\/www.latimes.com\/entertainment-arts\/music\/story\/2025-10-16\/sombr-i-barely-know-her-shane-boose-shrine-fonda-theater\">Sombr<\/a>, Alex Warren and <a rel=\"nofollow\" target=\"_blank\" class=\"link\" href=\"https:\/\/www.latimes.com\/entertainment-arts\/music\/story\/2025-04-10\/coachella-2025-lola-young-messy-tyler-the-creator\">Lola Young<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Further down the ballot, \u201cGNX,\u201d \u201cChromakopia\u201d and \u201cLet God Sort Em Out\u201d will compete with GloRilla\u2019s \u201cGlorious\u201d and JID\u2019s \u201cGod Does Like Ugly\u201d for the rap album award. For rock album, the nominees are Deftones \u201cPrivate Music,\u201d Haim\u2019s \u201cI Quit,\u201d Linkin Park\u2019s \u201cFrom Zero,\u201d Turnstile\u2019s \u201cNever Enough\u201d and Yungblud\u2019s \u201cIdols.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Following Beyonc\u00e9\u2019s win for country album at February\u2019s ceremony with \u201cCowboy Carter\u201d (<a rel=\"nofollow\" target=\"_blank\" class=\"link\" href=\"https:\/\/www.latimes.com\/entertainment-arts\/music\/story\/2025-02-03\/grammys-2025-beyonce-cowboy-carter-album-of-the-year-recording-academy\">which was also named album of the year<\/a>), the academy split the country album award into a prize for traditional country album and a prize for contemporary country album \u2014 a move criticized by some as an instance of racialized gatekeeping.<\/p>\n<p>The nominees for traditional country album are <a rel=\"nofollow\" target=\"_blank\" class=\"link\" href=\"https:\/\/www.latimes.com\/entertainment-arts\/music\/story\/2025-03-13\/charley-crockett-lonesome-drifter-shooter-jennings\">Charley Crockett\u2019s <\/a>\u201cDollar a Day,\u201d <a rel=\"nofollow\" target=\"_blank\" class=\"link\" href=\"https:\/\/www.latimes.com\/entertainment-arts\/music\/story\/2025-09-25\/margo-prices-hard-headed-woman-jimmy-kimmel-ohana-festival\">Margo Price\u2019s<\/a> \u201cHard Headed Woman,\u201d Zach Top\u2019s \u201cAin\u2019t In It for My Health\u201d and competing LPs by a father and son in Willie Nelson\u2019s \u201cOh What a Beautiful World\u201d and Lukas Nelson\u2019s \u201cAmerican Romance.\u201d For contemporary country album, the nominees are Kelsea Ballerini\u2019s \u201c<a rel=\"nofollow\" target=\"_blank\" class=\"link\" href=\"https:\/\/www.latimes.com\/entertainment-arts\/music\/story\/2024-10-28\/kelsea-ballerini-patterns-the-voice-interview\">Patterns<\/a>,\u201d Tyler Childers\u2019 \u201cSnipe Hunter,\u201d Eric Church\u2019s \u201c<a rel=\"nofollow\" target=\"_blank\" class=\"link\" href=\"https:\/\/www.latimes.com\/entertainment-arts\/music\/story\/2025-05-02\/eric-church-evangeline-vs-the-machine-stagecoach-2025-paul-mccartney\">Evangeline vs. the Machine<\/a>,\u201d Jelly Roll\u2019s \u201cBeautifully Broken\u201d and Miranda Lambert\u2019s \u201cPostcards from Texas.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Morgan Wallen\u2019s \u201cI\u2019m the Problem\u201d \u2014 the year\u2019s second-biggest album of any genre after Swift\u2019s \u201cThe Life of a Showgirl\u201d \u2014 wasn\u2019t nominated because Wallen didn\u2019t submit his music for Grammys consideration. The country superstar is one of a handful of musicians, along with Frank Ocean and Zach Bryan, who\u2019ve declined to take part in the awards show in recent years as a kind of implied protest against what they view as a restrictive and old-fashioned system.<\/p>\n<p>One former abstainer, the Weeknd, returned to the Grammys with a performance at the most recent show that was introduced by the Recording Academy\u2019s chief executive, Harvey Mason Jr. Yet the Weeknd\u2019s album \u201cHurry Up Tomorrow\u201d received no nominations for next year\u2019s ceremony.<\/p>\n<p>The 68th Grammys will be the last in the academy\u2019s half-century-long pact with CBS, which has broadcast the awards show since 1973.
