The biggest song from the biggest movie of the year is now a contender for one of the biggest awards in music. It might sound inevitable, but it\u2019s actually pretty weird.<\/p>\n

\u201cGolden,\u201d the most unavoidable bop from the animated kids movie KPop Demon Hunters, <\/em>has been the No. 1 song on the Billboard Global 200<\/a> for 14 weeks. The film is Netflix\u2019s most popular movie<\/a> of all time, with more than 325 million views and counting<\/a>. People even left their couches to see it in theaters, and it dominated the box office<\/a> during its brief run. Kids recreated the film\u2019s most popular looks<\/a> for Halloween and beyond<\/a>, and adults say they love it, too<\/a>.<\/p>\n

\u201cGolden\u201d is performed by the fictional band Huntr\/x, voiced by singers EJAE, Audrey Nuna and Rei Ami. In response to the news of the song\u2019s nominations, EJAE, who\u2019s one of the song\u2019s co-writers, told Variety<\/a>, \u201cI\u2019m not able to digest this time. I\u2019m still in shock.\u201d<\/p>\n

But given how massively popular \u201cGolden\u201d is, it\u2019s not entirely surprising that the Recording Academy, the group of musical professionals behind the Grammy Awards, gave it a nod for Song of the Year, one of its top prizes. What\u2019s unusual is the fact that it\u2019s a song from a film made for kids \u2014 and it\u2019s K-pop, a genre that\u2019s rarely recognized by the Grammys.<\/p>\n
