{"id":2141928,"date":"2025-11-07T23:44:20","date_gmt":"2025-11-07T23:44:20","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/celebrity.land\/en\/?p=2141928"},"modified":"2025-11-07T23:44:20","modified_gmt":"2025-11-07T23:44:20","slug":"usf-and-the-florida-orchestra-unite-to-advance-music-education-and-community-connection","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/celebrity.land\/en\/usf-and-the-florida-orchestra-unite-to-advance-music-education-and-community-connection\/","title":{"rendered":"USF and The Florida Orchestra unite to advance music education and community connection"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><\/p>\n<div>\n<p>The USF College of Design, Art &amp; Performance and The Florida Orchestra have formed<br \/>\n                     a new partnership to elevate music education, inspire artistic expression and strengthen<br \/>\n                     community engagement.<\/p>\n<p><\/p>\n<p>As part of the collaboration, the USF Symphony Orchestra, which is composed of 70<br \/>\n                     undergraduate and graduate students, will work directly with two internationally acclaimed<br \/>\n                     conductors from Florida\u2019s largest professional orchestra <span style=\"color: #000000;\"\/><a rel=\"nofollow\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/floridaorchestra.org\/conductors\/michael-francis\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">TFO Music Director Michael Francis<\/a><span style=\"color: #000000;\"> and <\/span><a rel=\"nofollow\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/floridaorchestra.org\/conductors\/chelsea-gallo\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Resident Conductor Chelsea Gallo<\/a><span style=\"color: #000000;\"> will serve as artists-in-residence at USF, providing students professional-level<br \/>\n                        ensemble experiences that will help shape them as musicians and prepare them for future<br \/>\n                        success.<\/span><\/p>\n<p>\u201cNot only does this initiative strengthen mentorship and raise performance standards<br \/>\n                     for both institutions, it also provides a space where learning, artistry and inspiration<br \/>\n                     coalesce to create lasting bonds between the university, the orchestra and the community<br \/>\n                     we serve,\u201d said Chris Garvin, dean of USF College of Design, Art &amp; Performance.<\/p>\n<p>Francis and Gallo will conduct the USF Symphony Orchestra in a series of free performances<br \/>\n                     at the USF School of Music\u2019s Peter and Cynthia Zinober Concert Hall. Additionally,<br \/>\n                     students have the opportunity to work side-by-side with TFO musicians and attend masterclasses<br \/>\n                     led by internationally renowned guest artists.<\/p>\n<p>For Kellie Mccann, an oboe player and fourth-year student double majoring in industrial<br \/>\n                     engineering and music studies, the orchestra\u2019s mix of disciplines reflects how music<br \/>\n                     builds community. \u201cEveryone contributes their own sound and background, but the goal<br \/>\n                     is always something greater than ourselves,\u201d she said. \u201cThere\u2019s a level of communication<br \/>\n                     and trust that happens without words. When it all locks in, it\u2019s one of the most rewarding<br \/>\n                     feelings you can experience as a musician.\u201d<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.usf.edu\/arts\/images\/news\/2025\/20251107-usf-and-the-florida-orchestra-unite-textbody-1446px-4464.jpg\" alt=\"Violinist performs with the Symphony Orchestra.\"\/><\/p>\n<p>The partnership reaches far beyond music to expand the student experience. Music becomes<br \/>\n                     a bridge between the orchestra and fields like engineering, business and sciences<br \/>\n                     to foster collaboration across disciplines. Their talent, curiosity and eagerness to explore new ideas bring<br \/>\n                           such vibrant energy to every rehearsal. It\u2019s truly inspiring to watch them grow into<br \/>\n                           their own voices and to imagine together what the future of orchestral music might<br \/>\n                           sound like.&#8221;<\/p>\n<\/p><\/div><\/div>\n<p>\u201cThere are few human experiences that can compare to performing in an orchestra,\u201d<br \/>\n                     said Oliver Cole, a cello player and master\u2019s student in music performance. \u201cYou become<br \/>\n                     part of something much bigger than yourself working under maestros who\u2019ve led world-renowned<br \/>\n                     orchestras. At first, my initial reaction was one of nervousness and anxiety; but<br \/>\n                     that feeling faded into that of higher expectations for myself and the orchestra.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Raul Marcano, a clarinetist and second-year master\u2019s student in performance, echoed<br \/>\n                     that sentiment. \u201cWorking with Michael Francis and Chelsea Gallo has pushed us to elevate<br \/>\n                     our preparation and approach to orchestral rehearsal.
