King Charles and the Royal Family could find their Christmas Day
\na lot quieter this year.<\/p>\n

The choir at the
\nchurch of St. Mary Magdalene on the Sandringham estate, where the
\nroyals traditionally attend Christmas Day service, have stopped
\nsinging after a row about standards.<\/h2>\n

The vicar of the church, the Rev Paul Williams, decided to bring
\nin a consultant to review the choristers, who are all
\nvolunteers.<\/p>\n

Tansy Castledine concluded, in a report published earlier this
\nyear, that the group needed to \u201daspire to higher standards\u201d and
\nthat they had \u201dno knowledge of music or singing technique\u201d.<\/p>\n

The choir\u2019s long time leader, Dr Claire Stewart, went on sick
\nleave brought on by stress and now the Director of Music has quit
\nher post.<\/p>\n

As a result, it\u2019s reported that several choristers are
\nboycotting rehearsals. Now it\u2019s feared that they might not be in
\nfull voice for the Christmas Day service.<\/p>\n

Although the service itself is never broadcast, it\u2019s the most
\nwatched Christmas Day church ceremony in the country as crowds
\ngather outside St. Mary Magdalene to see the Royal Family as they
\nwalk from Sandringham House. There\u2019s always a walkabout afterwards,
\ntoo, with millions seeing the royal Christmas on TV and online.<\/p>\n

St. Mary Magdalene is in the Diocese of Norwich<\/a> and a spokesperson told The
\nDaily Telegraph<\/em> that \u201dseveral members of the choir have
\ncontinued to sing together throughout this time, including at sung
\nservices across the churches in the Sandringham group.\u201d<\/p>\n

There\u2019s no chance of the Christmas Day service being cancelled.
\nNot only would The King have something to say, the Diocese noted
\nthat \u201dthere is a full schedule of services planned at Sandringham
\nto celebrate the joy of Christmas.\u201d<\/p>\n

King Charles is expected to gather the Royal Family at
\nSandringham for Christmas. Last year, Queen Camilla also invited
\nher own children to join them for the festive celebrations.<\/p>\n

However, it\u2019s already known that
\nThe King\u2019s brother, Andrew Mountbatten Windsor<\/a>, won\u2019t be
\njoining the family even though he is about to move to a private
\nproperty on the Sandringham estate. He is headed there after giving
\nup the lease on the thirty room Royal Lodge on the Windsor estate
\nwhere he has lived, rent free, for over twenty years.<\/p>\n

His former wife, Sarah Ferguson, won\u2019t join the Royal Family
\neither \u2013 King Charles surprised many by inviting her to be part of
\nthe group walking to and from church in 2023.<\/p>\n

It\u2019s not known whether Andrew and Sarah\u2019s two daughters will
\njoin the Royal Family at Sandringham this year. Princess Beatrice
\nwas with them in 2024, having had to cancel plans to spend the
\nfestive season in Italy as she was heavily pregnant and doctors
\nadvised her not to travel. Her sister, Princess Eugenie, wasn\u2019t
\nthere and spent the holidays with her husband, Jack Brooksbank, and
\ntheir two sons, August and Ernest.<\/p>\n

The Prince and
\nPrincess of Wales are expected to be at Sandringham on Christmas
\nDay along with their three children, Prince George, Princess
\nCharlotte and Prince Louis.<\/h2>\n

There will also be interest in whether Princess Anne\u2019s children,
\nZara Tindall and Peter Phillips are there \u2013 Peter announced his
\nengagement to Harriet Sperling earlier this year and this would be
\nher first Christmas as a royal bride to be.<\/p>\n

King Charles has maintained the tradition of celebrating royal
\nChristmas at Sandringham. Queen Elizabeth II brought the Royal
\nFamily together for the festive season there throughout her reign
\nand despite a brief time when the holidays would be marked at
\nWindsor, it was at the Norfolk estate that she most enjoyed
\nChristmas.<\/p>\n

The King, like his mother, often attends several services at St.
\nMary Magdalene on Christmas Day. However, he may find both a little
\nquieter this year.<\/p>\n
