Formed in Ryazan, Russia, in 2011 at a This Will Destroy You<\/strong> concert, cinematic, ambient post-rock band I Am Waiting for You Last Summer<\/strong> (IWFYLS<\/strong>) was founded by Sasha Sokolov<\/strong> and Evgenii Popov<\/strong>, later joined by Lev Nikitin<\/strong>, who expanded the project\u2019s electronic dimension. Over the past decade, IWFYLS has become known for immersive live performances\u2014meticulously crafted audiovisual environments that are kinetic, unpredictable, and charged with near-physical intensity.<\/p>\n IWFYLS returned this summer with a handful of singles \u2014 preludes to their anticipated full-length album, Without\/Within<\/strong><\/em>. Finally out now, Without\/Within<\/em> is a conceptually rich body of work.<\/p>\n Sasha Sokolov<\/strong> explains:<\/p>\n \u201cThe core concept behind Without\/Within<\/em> centers on a deep interest in consciousness \u2014 how it emerges, how it perceives, and how it divides the world into \u2018inner\u2019 and \u2018outer.\u2019 While working on the album, I was listening to a lot of neuroscience, astronomy, and philosophy podcasts\u2026 This interest created a kind of back-and-forth between the conceptual and the sonic: we always start by writing music first, and only later begin to question and articulate what it is we\u2019ve actually made.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n
